Our European spies have captured what could be a development mule for the production version of the Jaguar C-X17 concept. The SUV show car made its world premiere at Frankfurt last year and previewed the British marque’s entry to a segment traditionally reserved for sister company Land Rover.
Indeed, the car wore what looks like the chopped up remains of a Range Rover Evoque and was covered in camouflage usually seen on Land Rover mules. It was so convincing that the spy photographers initially thought it was a high-performance version of the Freelander’s successor due to the car’s large air intakes, flared wheel arches and dual exhaust outlets.
The SUV will be the second car in Jaguar’s lineup to use the company’s new modular all-aluminium iQ[Al] architecture, after the upcoming XE. It should also share the small executive sedan’s range of Ingenium engines, including a new 2.0 litre turbo four.
As this is a Jaguar, the new SUV will feature a chassis designed primarily for on-road use, rather than go-anywhere ability. Key features include a rear-biased four-wheel drive system as well as Torque Vectoring by Braking.
