2014 Malaysian GP – Mercedes AMG Petronas wins big

F1_2014_Malaysian_GP_04

Mercedes AMG Petronas made it two out of two so far this season, winning the 2014 Malaysian GP last weekend in style. This time, it’s the 2008 world champion and new Petronas Primax technical performance consultant Lewis Hamilton taking the victory, ahead of teammate and Australian GP winner Nico Rosberg and – who else – Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton entered the record books with the dominant win, securing his first Grand Chelem. That’s getting the pole position, the fastest lap of the race and winning the grand prix while leading every lap. Only 23 drivers have ever achieved this, and just 11 of them have more than one. Vettel, for instance, has four.

The Mercedes duo now heads the championship table (the German ahead with 43 points, the Briton 25) with Fernando Alonso hanging in close quarters with 24 points. Ferrari’s double world champion finished where he started – fourth – having spent the whole race dicing for positions with Daniel Ricciardo.

Red Bull’s new signing again showed why he fully deserves Mark Webber’s seat with another impressive showing. Unfortunately, he proved to be as unlucky as his fellow Australian, suffering a botched pit stop and then a front wing failure near the end of the race, forcing him to retire.

Coming after his disqualification from his home race (where he finished second on the track) he walks away with no points to his name. Adding insult to injury, his shambolic pit release (to no fault of his own) also means that he will enter the next race with a 10-place grid penalty, having already served a 10-second stop and go penalty in Sepang.

Further down the field, Nico Hulkenberg punched well above Force India’s weight to end up fifth, beating Jenson Button’s McLaren and the Williams of Felipe Massa. Along the way, ex-Ferrari man Massa refused to follow Williams’ team orders to let teammate Valtteri Bottas pass. Funny, you’d think he’d let his teammate through by instinct by now.

Rookies Kevin Magnussen and Daniil Kvyat took the last point scoring positions. The McLaren driver clashed with Kimi Raikkonen early on, ruining both their races. Fighting a damaged Ferrari, the Iceman finished a disappointing twelfth, behind the Proton-branded Lotus of Romain Grosjean. The Caterhams of Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson were next, leaving rival team Marussia’s Max Chilton in last place.

Next up: Bahrain, in a week’s time.

Malaysia can waste money with all this Grand Prix nonsense. What is more important Petronas, give your rakyat cheap fuel. That is far more useful for the whole nation.

The Sultan of Brunei, gives super cheap petrol to his rakyat. Then, the remaining, he exports it at market price to the world. Charity begins at home for the Sultan of Brunei. He thinks and cares for his rakyat first.

Petronas is hundred times bigger with hundred times bigger oil reserves than small tiny Brunei. Petronas should be giving cheap fuel to the suffering Malaysians. Now, Malaysians are suffering so much with high cost of living and Petronas got time to do GP nonsense.

    • First and foremost, fuel price isn’t regulated by PETRONAS, its by the Gov, and yes, PETRONAS does pay ALL the royalty to ALL producing oil state(s) through Gov.

To render PETRONAS strategic business alliance with Mercedes / F1 as a waste of Rakyats’ money is totally absurd. Study how the way business works then perhaps you can learn somewhat on how to improve yourselves.

Well to the point of reducing the fuel price, i couldn’t agree more, but not by blaming PETRONAS, instead try make for a change in the next election, will ya?

To Mercedes AMG PETRONAS drivers & team; Lads, you’ve earned it. Now, embrace it! Congratz from your no 1 fan.

    • As much as I hate every moron running this country you cant be seriously blaming a race that you don’t watch over something completely not related. Low cost fuel? Ask najib that, now gtfo.

petronas is a private company, nothing to do with government. they are trying to develop things which will benefit the automotive/motorsports industries that the technology will eventually be in our road cars in future. and the fuel price in malaysia is relatively low compare to other countries although there is few that is low. JUST A FEW. if u cant afford the fuel, dont drive a car. ride a bike instead. save fuel and time. just suffer while raining.

Thank god PETRONAS choose to sponsor Merc team despite Tony Fernandes’ Caterham or Proton’s DRB-HICOM’s Lotus. This is a good ad for PETRONAS product overseas. Bring those money outside into Malaysia.

Yes, what as waste. So much money (rakyat money) that petronas pour into mercedes and yet only Hamilton and Nico get to ride that mercedes cars… If DAP become the gov, it will make sure that more malaysian can ride mercedes car… and at bargain price! Even just as state gov in penang, they succeed in getting cm to drive mercedes, with cheaper price. just imagine if they rule the country, more ministers and MP can get to ride mercedes!.. they can get nego to get cheaper price mercedes for all malaysian.

VOTE FOR DAP! VOTE FOR DAP!

Long time before I thought it is a waste of PETRONAS money too. But they spend fraction of the RM60b profit for the F1 sponsorship. It is marketing tool. PETRONAS is a company. In order to make more profit, they should spend on CAPEX and advertising. F1 is some sort of those component.

Hmmm, a potential snoozefest like last year. Lucky we have the mid to bottom pack which gave us an entertaining race.
F1 the sport where who ever understands the rules and regulations best and able to exploit loopholes; wins.
Congrats to Merc Petronas. Hopefully the field catch up quickly otherwise, it’ll be a walk in the park for the Merc boys.

There is just no way to convince some people. Everything seems to be wrong. I wonder if they manage their lives so well if they know so well on how others should run things. Stop shitting where you live. Bad mouth doesn’t help anyone.
