Beijing 2014: Citroen DS 5LS R Concept, 300 hp sedan

Citroen DS 5LS R Concept-03

At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Citroen will be showing off a hot version of the Chinese market DS 5LS Sedan. An nod to the French brand’s World Rally Championship pedigree, the Citroen DS 5LS R concept is powered by a 1.6 litre turbo engine with 300 hp and 400 Nm.

The chassis has been lowered by 15 mm, and the concept has wider front tracks and a sequential gearbox controlled by paddles behind the steering wheel. The show car boasts uprated suspension and brakes, as well as the liberal use of real carbon fibre.

The concept, in anodised Carmine Red paint with a matte metallic finish, shows off its ‘R’ status with wide side stripes in matte carbon grey on the front doors. The ‘DS Wings’ grille is finished in carbon grey dark chrome and the 20-inch wheels are ‘sculpturally designed’ and carbon-coloured to match the body.

Inside, the DS 5LS R is fully lined with leather and Alcantara, including the dashboard and steering wheel. The DS identity is reinforced via a three-fabric (aniline full-grain leather, DS-embossed leather, Alcantara) version of the ‘watchstrap’ upholstery. The seats, dashboard, upper door panels and central armrest are finished with pearl top-stitching in Carmine Red. CF inserts complete the package.

Why do some people always have to use any article to bash Proton? Citroen started making cars long before even the Japanese started making cars, and by the time Malausia gained independence Citroen made the most advanced cars in the world, the only cars that could rival the best Mercedes had to offer. Compared to that the Citroen of today is a mere shadow of itself. Nowhere near as ahead of everyone else as they used to be.

Hello, Do you still remember that early 80s’ Japanese cars are considered as no quality like proton today? What happened after 20years in 2000s?
What Proton has achieved up to date after more than 25 years?
You do not feel shame for it? No wonder Proton still can survive!

Put this engine in the DS5 and give it RWD with a proper 6 speed manual or even a dual clutch auto.

Oh and bring back the hydropneumatic suspension!

A modern 8 speed torque converter should do the trick, unless they can find a wet clutch DSG. I agree on the suspension, though not necessarily in the same car. You should be able to get a comfortable cruiser with hydractive and a quiet, refined engine as well as a hot hatch with stiffened suspension and this 300 hp engine.

In any case they should build this car.

There you go. 1.6l turbo with 300hp and 400nm. Put that into a sweet little hatch.

No point…those Chinese who can affort this car will most likely to use the 300BHP in a traffic jam…:-)
