Honda bringing two new concept cars to Auto China 2014, one could preview the next Accord Euro

honda-concept-beijing-2014

Honda has announced plans to bring two new concept cars to Auto China 2014, which will be held in Beijing later this month.

Together with JV partners Guangqi Honda Automobile Co Ltd and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co Ltd, the Japanese brand will show off a concept for a new model developed exclusively for the Chinese market. The above official rendering should be of this China-only car.

The other world debut is a concept model for the all-new Spirior. A product of Dongfeng Honda, the current Spirior is essentially the Honda Accord Euro a.k.a. Acura TSX for the China-market. It has been around since 2008 – will we get a first look at the new Accord Euro at Beijing 2014? It could be related to the Acura TLX Prototype showed at Detroit 2014, or not. We’ll see.

I’ve always had the fondness over Accord Euro compared to its Asian counterpart. Throughout 20 years (90s to 2000s), the USDM (or Malaysian) Accord had grown big in size, in reference to customers’ preference for luxo barge at a bargain price. The interior is roomier than the E-class/5-series, with legroom nearly matches to S-class. The Europeans meanwhile love road handling and compact utilitarian characteristics, and thus made the Accord Euro, Avensis & i40 so different from their Asian roots. It’s quite interesting to see how Honda can turn the current 5-series sized Accord into one compact 3-series sized sedan with generous interior room.

The concept car rendering above looks very interesting, especially the front fascia which incorporates quadruple LED headlamp clusters. Maybe this could be the first Japanese car to employ full LED headlamp to follow Audi & Mercedes?

In fact, the Japanese, not the Germans, were the first to mass produce full LED headlamps.

The previous gen LS600hL is the first car in the world to spot full LED headlamps. The current one pushed the boundary even further, the whole car doesn’t even have a single conventional halogen bulb.

      • The facts was!!!!…
LS600h & hL (2007 & 2008) wasn’t he first using full LED Headlamp but only Low Beam LED, high beam and turn signal still use filament bulbs made by Koito, Japan… Full LED Headlamp made by AL-Automotive fitted on Audi (2008) was the first using fully LED Headlamp in production car. In 2009, Hella made Full LED Headlamp for Cadillac Escalade Platinum & became the first US market Full LED headlamps.. Nest time, use google if not sure..

Is this going to be specific for China only? Cos thats too bad. Was hoping for it to reach Malaysia as the Euro Accord, which usually handles better and is sexier than the US Accord which the Accord in Malaysia is based on (honestly, the current one is a really handsome car though). Doubt that, since Honda Malaysia has never brought in the Euro version (Accord nor Civic). If it really is a Euro Accord, how does it fit in with the Acura TLX? Wont they compete with each other? Though the Acura may be slightly bigger, and will definitely be priced higher and with higher trim and more luxurious detailing than the Accord.
