We’ve already seen the facelifted Ford Focus hatchback and estate at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, and now the updated sedan version has come into view, a week before the 2014 New York Auto Show. So, how do you like that new rear end?
Compared to the outgoing model, the 2015 Ford Focus Sedan gets a more rounded, slimmer set of lights. Much has been said about the Kia Cerato mimicking the Focus Sedan’s tail lamps, and now it looks like Ford is returning the favour with this mid-life facelift.
The rest of the car is as per the refreshed European hatchback and estate models, although the American-market example shown wears bigger, US-spec wing mirrors. This bright blue example gives us a look at the Focus’ reflector headlight option and de-chromed Aston Martin-inspired grille too.
Inside, it gets the same dashboard revisions – new steering wheel, larger 8.0-inch MyFord Touch SYNC 2 display and a relocated handbrake lever (to free up more space for the new American-friendly cupholders). This particular model also shows the updated Sony-branded audio buttons.
Mechanically, chassis tweaks and a re-tuned electric power steering is said to improve its driving dynamics. Refinement should be enhanced too, with changes to the suspension system, better engine-bay insulation, plus thicker carpets and window glass.
New to the American market will be the 1.0 litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which is tuned to offer 123 hp and a maximum of 197 Nm of torque in the States. Funnily enough, the new mill can only be paired to a six-speed manual transmission. In auto-loving US of A, that’s a bold move.

Looks really good…
Itll be better with a 1.6 exoboose underneath
yup…the new look looks waaayyyyyy better than before..good job ford.. :D
Ecoboost***
Proton CFE Turbo still the best in the world. BMW M3 Twin Turbo pun tak dapat lawan tau.
Tak lawak pun. Kesian
preve’s rear better than this..
Looks like a baby Fusion now. But shouldn’t they consider projector headlights as standard? The Euro one has it.
Focus’s rear legroom is pathetic
yeah, u r rite
If not because of the “C segment car – B segment interior space”, I would have bought this Focus already.
The rear seat is even crampier than Proton Saga. The curved out the driver and front passenger’s seat to make room for rear occupant’s knee. Small boot also makes it unsuitable for family car usage… Clearly a driver’s car. Other than that, this car is great – punchy engine, sharp handling, very enganging and exciting to drive, packed with features.
To me, facelifted version looks better, especially the interior now looks more clean – dashboard and and the head unit are now less cluttered.
No wonder initially Focus was not sold in the US.
It seems to be because of the cramped rear seats.
That’s the focus (heh, no pun intended) they chose for the car’s development and that’s the price of superb handling in such dimensions, I reckon.
I also reckon that most people in Malaysia made the same choice as you did and chose some of the larger (by interior space) C-segments out there, for the sake of their family.
Agree with the space. The Persona feel more spacious but wait, it is a VERY safe car, very drivable and also good looking. That is why my wife goes for Focus and my daughter Persona!
I like. The tail lamps look more fitting for the overall design than the previous ones did.
1.6 Ecoboost slightly lower than low spec Altis/Civic will be attract a lot of potential buyers in their consideration
without dry type dual clutch though, hard to say is bad or smart move.
This one looks damn better than current gen.
Cerato doesnt copied the Focus sedan rear lamp, in fact try to take a look on Lancer Hatchback. The copy between the Focus and Lancer Hatchback look weirdly identical that makes you cant even tell which is which from the rear view without looking at the badge.
Aston Martin wannabe… Sigh…
“Lame” Tammer,
Of Course it is a Aston Martin Wanna be…
Aston Martin’s major share holder is …….Ford
They can CRTL+C and CTRL+V in anything/anyway they want from Aston Martin.
FYI, Ford has no more share in Aston Martin anymore.
Joshi,
In Ford Business tactics,
they’ve copied all the technologies long before they let go of their shares..!!!
it still uses the silly button on the side of the gear lol. that said, if it comes to Malaysia with that dual clutch tranny, even though it’s the beloved 1.6 ecoboost engine, Malaysians will still have their reserves
of course it has an 8 inch screen, but it’s always a different story when it ends up on our soil.. even the current focus has an 7 inch screen overseas
Omg tis FL looks more feminie and inoffensive compared to the old model, just like the Honda ACcord, Civic, old model loks better
Even my new YARIS can tapau this ridiculously ridiculous ford… Come to me… Got free umbrella ma, red colour oso..
Not bad. Nice.
Wow, Ford keeps on surprising us with better and better designs ! Well done Ford !
No surprise then why so many car companies today are taking cues from Ford.
Man, this is really nice!
I’m considering this for my 2nd car..
i have always preferred hatches over sedans but this could change everything!!
nice facelift..at last ford is catching up:)
I took this car out of my list due to cramp interior and cluttered buttons on dashboard but the handling is fantastic.
looks like new nissan’s design cue..
