The sun is out in Europe, and it’s time to defrost the cabriolet for some top-down motoring. BMW has done exactly that, although this is one convertible no one can buy yet – the BMW 2 Series Convertible is set to join its 2 Series Coupe sister later this year. It will replace the 1 Series Convertible.
Compared with the old 1 Series Coupe, the 2 Series Coupe is 7 cm longer, nearly 3 cm wider and has a 3 cm longer wheelbase. The 2 Series Convertible should follow the same route, and carry the same front end design as the Coupe, which is much less awkward than the F20 1 Series hatchback’s mug. This car will use an electric folding fabric top.
Drivetrains should mirror the 2 Coupe, which comes in 218d, 220d, 225d, 220i and M235i guises, although we’re not sure if BMW will offer a topless M235i. All bar the M have 2.0 litre turbos, mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or eight-speed automatic.
