Infiniti QX80 – facelifted SUV to make NY debut

Apart from the updated Q70, Infiniti have also pulled the covers off the facelifted version of its leviathan flagship seven-seater SUV, the Infiniti QX80, ahead of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), bringing it in line with the company’s latest design language that premiered on the Q50.

The majority of the upgrades have been centred around the front, with a new upper and lower grille design and new LED headlights, indicators and fog lights. At the rear, a larger protective plate on the rear sill is now standard, guarding the bumper against dings when loading or unloading cargo.

New to the range are two wheel designs – machine-finished 20-inch alloy wheels and optional 22-inch forged alloy wheels (which the company claims to be the largest in the segment) – as well as three new colours: Hermosa Blue, Graphite Shadow and Majestic White.

On the inside, customer demand for greater colour and wood trim separation sees the previous Tuscan Burl wood trim replaced with a darker, more reddish Mocha Burl, while the new Deluxe Technology Package gains heavier, furniture-like Stratford Burl trim – including on the steering wheel – as well as leather-trimmed upper door panels and semi-aniline upholstery on the seats.

In addition, the Graphite interior trim choice now features silver contrast stitching, while the centre console and the steering wheel receive new silver color accents. Technology wise, the QX80 gains a couple of new safety features from the Q50 – High Beam Assist and Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW).

There is also a top-of-the-range Limited model – available fully-optioned and in all-wheel drive only – which is distinguished by the dark headlight finish, smoked clear tail light lenses and illuminated running boards. The exterior chrome trim is also darker, along with the standard 22-inch wheels. Three colour choices are unique to the Limited – Imperial Black, Mocha Almond and Dakar Bronze.

The interior has been upholstered in Truffle Brown leather with silver piping and quilting on the seats. Genuine Ash wood trim has been lavishly applied, while Ultrasuede leather lines the roof and pillars. Branded and illuminated stainless steel side sill plates complete the interior appointments.

The size of this thing is immensely huge! I’ve seen it with my own eyes. A pretty & sleek design wouldn’t be possible nor be of any justice to its monstrosity.

The ugliest Japanese vehicle in existence. I bet its resale value will be worse than that of a Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage, don’t even bother comparing with the excellent Santa Fe and Sorento.

  • While the interior is kind of nice; from the outside, it looks like the unholy b@st@rd of PT Cruiser and Land Cruiser.

I’ve been in one and I have to say that the seats are sublime, better than what you get on Mercs and Audis.
