UPDATE: The Nissan Sylphy is now open for booking. Estimated prices are from RM115k to RM125k. Read our full and exclusive test drive report with three points of view.
Nissan Malaysia has begun teasing the reveal of the new Nissan Sylphy on its Facebook page. The series of teasers is a countdown from six (days), with each number alluding to a feature of the C-segment sedan.
Teased so far are six airbags, a five-star ANCAP safety rating, four-wheel disc brakes with traction and stability control, ABS and BA, a three-dimensional chrome front grille and auto dual-zone air-con.
This one’s been a long time coming – the B17 Nissan Sylphy made its world debut in China two full years ago, before being introduced in Thailand, the US (Sentra) and Australia (Pulsar) in the second half of 2012. In Taiwan, it’s called the Super Sentra!
We already know from research reports that the new C-segment sedan is due to be launched in the second quarter this year – which we are now in. As confirmed by the latest teaser pic above, The Malaysian-market Nissan Sylphy will be motivated by a 131 PS/174 Nm 1.8 litre MRA8DE four-cylinder engine with Twin C-VTC and an improved Xtronic CVT. See spyshots, and another set.

Awesome!! being the 3rd C-segment to be had with 6 airbags or more. So the question now comes, how much of it is standard and at what price.
sorry 5th….Toyota Bias meant that I have actually forgotten the Corolla Altis can be had with 7 airbags, and I have forgotten the Focus.
Hmmmm since the City, Airbag count has been steadily increasing in every new models, which nothing short of an amazing improvement.
Good, this is the trend that we would like to see: minimum 6 airbags plus ESP in all vehicles in Malaysia, if possible.
No body wants to pay extra for 7 airbags. And it should not be counted within the list.
It’s gonna be RM120k for 1800cc for all these features.
Most Expensive Sylphy Ever, and also the Most Expensive 1.8L C-Segment.
U are already paying extra to get all the safety features from this car.
It’s weird that now manufactures published how innovative is their front grille. Honda City did that, now Sylphy. Like we care?
You’re actually correct AVH… If the Sylphy is offered as advertised, then it shall be the 3rd C-segment offered within the 60K-110K price range to have 6 airbags & VCS as standard across the range. Forget Altis and Civic as they are not standard across the range.
This statement only applies if TCM offers the Sylphy with such advertised features as STANDARD (not optional accessories to top up $$) and with COMPETITIVE price. Tan Chong Motor, please don’t act like Honda Malaysia giving false hope to eager consumers (advertising the City as having 6 airbags & VSC yet both only available for the top variant).
No big deal and you missed out Mazda 3 who has 6 airbag too even on their previous model.
Sylphy is truly global car with digital auto dual-zone aircon…Preve, Suprima langsung tak ada…
Is Sylphy comes with TCS and VSC?
yup..come with TCS and VSC.
but torsion beam behind like altis.
u must read second para…
Nissan sylphy price in thai for 1.8L is bout RM90-94k and come without stability control n traction control n oso oni 2 airbag
That make Elantra the only C segment with 2 airbags junk.
inspira oso oni 2 airbag
U mean most toyota cars 2 airbags and no vsc, and exhorbit price – not junk?
the spec pretty good
1 stand for “1 hundred K only”??
1 stand for 100k and more lahh..kahkahkah…need lower price with 6 air bag? buy plotong maaa…also got 5ancap..
One = 1 sky high price tag
1 : wait for 1 more year to be launched
I wonder how credible is Ancap when in Europe and other continent gave poor rating for this car. http://youtu.be/COAtfA1nfss
no Euroncap star for Sylphy/sentra/bluebird… everybody know that IIHS test is tough especially small overlap front crash test (your youtube reference)..
ETCM! All new Sylphy?! Seriously?! I saw this on the street of BKK with red plates back in Sep2012 and it’s Apr2014 NOW!
1 : RM 1 only…haha
1 : ONE for EVERYONE!!!
Honda Civic facelift has 6-airbags
Nissan Sylphy finally got 6-airbags
good job
CC reduce. . No price reduce. . No way.
ETC need to highlight Rear Disc Break and ugly front grille on this 2012 model?
Cool…a good looking car with decent spec list at the end…now have to wait for the price.
I think all of us motorheads here should only buy cars with 6 airbags and VSC as standard from now on. Our lives are no less cheaper than the lives of Europeans….
Well done ETCM Nissan for introducing the new Sylphy with safety kit at par with other developed countries. Many Malaysians will appreciate this kind gesture, myself included.
I am hoping that the above safety kit is STANDARD across all specs and not OPTIONAL like the NEW Corolla Altis 2.0V. If yes, then dua tangan thumbs up, if not, still a good gesture anyway.
Looking forward to the launch !
t’s gonna be RM120k for 1800cc for all these features.
Most Expensive Sylphy Ever, and also the Most Expensive 1.8L C-Segment.
U are already paying extra to get all the safety features from this car.
Why Nissan cars from B segment till D segment all so ugly.
Its one of the most comfortable cars suspension wise, its very quite oso,bt a quick check online, curent sylphys have terrible depreciation,u can have one for around rm5xk only….
The front grill is ugly btw….
I dono, the more competition come out,the more the cerato stands out…!
Nowadays which car does not depreciate? When go buy 2nd hand car they will tell you this car price higher due to 2nd hand value good.. But when you sell it back, they will say cannot laa.. your car no value, high mileage, got dented, no service, too many years ownership.. Is all about sweet talk… Just google around and ask even Toyota Camry 2.5V 1 year ownership depreciate how much? If not mistaken almost nearly 50k (25~30% depreciation!) when sell to 2nd dealer, but when re-sell mark up another 20k and tell ppl this car good 2nd value.. LOL!
And Cerato also has an equally poor crash test. http://youtu.be/B3doBwLK-8o
walao, i think the spec quite bare, so desperate ETCM? even full disc brakes also need to boast?
I am an uncle and i find this car ugly.
Meh….SYLPHY-less… Just like the disease… So itchy on your eyes and body….MEH,,,,
Saw it on trailer few days ago. Nice looking I must say. Tan Chong staff has gone for the training.
1 = RM 111,111.11
The front grill is out-dated.
1 new engine,
2 zone climatronic
3D Grille
4 disc brakes
5 Star ANCAP
6 airbags.
Not bad of a promotion.
This would make it the first Nissan in Malaysia below 200k with 6 airbags, and the first CKD model with it. Finally!
CBU from Thailand bro.
Dear Tan Chong Motor, price the 1.8 full spec at 95K, and surely it will steal Civic & Altis sales. Please ensure that all the specs you advertise ARE STANDARD, not optional accessories. The previous Sylphy has better refinement & NVH compared to Lancer/Civic. But its price is not that competitive that potential buyers went to bought the Altis, which has better brand image. As a result, tts resale value is also not that good (ask dealer around). So, pricing & cost reduction is very crucial for TCM to capture the narrow & cut-throat margin of the C-segment market. After all, we had Proton & Naza to thanks for; for equipping the Preve/Cerato with 6 airbags & VSC as standard across range. That changed the market trend among C-segment buyers. If the ‘brand image-stricken’ Malaysian & Korean brands can do it, why not Japanese?
As usual, I suspect TCM will strategize on offering only things that customer needs to cut down costs. GPS, Impul/Nismo bodykit, leather, 17 inch rims, shall be offered as customizeable add-on options. Just like how they sell the popular Almera & Livina, expecting customers to top up for better features(bodykit, GPS, side mirror signal LED, etc). In the end, the price is 5K closer to top spec Civic/Altis, which ironically may sway buyers to choose them over the Sylphy.
Nissan is useless, car design getting uglier and uglier…..
Lack of performance 131ps????
why Nissan keep producing Almera like front grill?
even uncle says it’s ugly.
