UPDATE: The Nissan Sylphy is now open for booking. Estimated prices are from RM115k to RM125k. Read our full and exclusive test drive report with three points of view.

Nissan Malaysia has begun teasing the reveal of the new Nissan Sylphy on its Facebook page. The series of teasers is a countdown from six (days), with each number alluding to a feature of the C-segment sedan.

Teased so far are six airbags, a five-star ANCAP safety rating, four-wheel disc brakes with traction and stability control, ABS and BA, a three-dimensional chrome front grille and auto dual-zone air-con.

This one’s been a long time coming – the B17 Nissan Sylphy made its world debut in China two full years ago, before being introduced in Thailand, the US (Sentra) and Australia (Pulsar) in the second half of 2012. In Taiwan, it’s called the Super Sentra!

We already know from research reports that the new C-segment sedan is due to be launched in the second quarter this year – which we are now in. As confirmed by the latest teaser pic above, The Malaysian-market Nissan Sylphy will be motivated by a 131 PS/174 Nm 1.8 litre MRA8DE four-cylinder engine with Twin C-VTC and an improved Xtronic CVT. See spyshots, and another set.

Awesome!! being the 3rd C-segment to be had with 6 airbags or more. So the question now comes, how much of it is standard and at what price.

sorry 5th….Toyota Bias meant that I have actually forgotten the Corolla Altis can be had with 7 airbags, and I have forgotten the Focus.

Hmmmm since the City, Airbag count has been steadily increasing in every new models, which nothing short of an amazing improvement.

Good, this is the trend that we would like to see: minimum 6 airbags plus ESP in all vehicles in Malaysia, if possible.

No body wants to pay extra for 7 airbags. And it should not be counted within the list.

        • It’s gonna be RM120k for 1800cc for all these features.

Most Expensive Sylphy Ever, and also the Most Expensive 1.8L C-Segment.

U are already paying extra to get all the safety features from this car.

It’s weird that now manufactures published how innovative is their front grille. Honda City did that, now Sylphy. Like we care?

You’re actually correct AVH… If the Sylphy is offered as advertised, then it shall be the 3rd C-segment offered within the 60K-110K price range to have 6 airbags & VCS as standard across the range. Forget Altis and Civic as they are not standard across the range.

This statement only applies if TCM offers the Sylphy with such advertised features as STANDARD (not optional accessories to top up $$) and with COMPETITIVE price. Tan Chong Motor, please don’t act like Honda Malaysia giving false hope to eager consumers (advertising the City as having 6 airbags & VSC yet both only available for the top variant).

Cool…a good looking car with decent spec list at the end…now have to wait for the price.

I think all of us motorheads here should only buy cars with 6 airbags and VSC as standard from now on. Our lives are no less cheaper than the lives of Europeans….

Well done ETCM Nissan for introducing the new Sylphy with safety kit at par with other developed countries. Many Malaysians will appreciate this kind gesture, myself included.

I am hoping that the above safety kit is STANDARD across all specs and not OPTIONAL like the NEW Corolla Altis 2.0V. If yes, then dua tangan thumbs up, if not, still a good gesture anyway.

Looking forward to the launch !

Nowadays which car does not depreciate? When go buy 2nd hand car they will tell you this car price higher due to 2nd hand value good.. But when you sell it back, they will say cannot laa.. your car no value, high mileage, got dented, no service, too many years ownership.. Is all about sweet talk… Just google around and ask even Toyota Camry 2.5V 1 year ownership depreciate how much? If not mistaken almost nearly 50k (25~30% depreciation!) when sell to 2nd dealer, but when re-sell mark up another 20k and tell ppl this car good 2nd value.. LOL!

    1 new engine,
    2 zone climatronic
    3D Grille
    4 disc brakes
    5 Star ANCAP
    6 airbags.

    Not bad of a promotion.

This would make it the first Nissan in Malaysia below 200k with 6 airbags, and the first CKD model with it. Finally!

Dear Tan Chong Motor, price the 1.8 full spec at 95K, and surely it will steal Civic & Altis sales. Please ensure that all the specs you advertise ARE STANDARD, not optional accessories. The previous Sylphy has better refinement & NVH compared to Lancer/Civic. But its price is not that competitive that potential buyers went to bought the Altis, which has better brand image. As a result, tts resale value is also not that good (ask dealer around). So, pricing & cost reduction is very crucial for TCM to capture the narrow & cut-throat margin of the C-segment market. After all, we had Proton & Naza to thanks for; for equipping the Preve/Cerato with 6 airbags & VSC as standard across range. That changed the market trend among C-segment buyers. If the ‘brand image-stricken’ Malaysian & Korean brands can do it, why not Japanese?

As usual, I suspect TCM will strategize on offering only things that customer needs to cut down costs. GPS, Impul/Nismo bodykit, leather, 17 inch rims, shall be offered as customizeable add-on options. Just like how they sell the popular Almera & Livina, expecting customers to top up for better features(bodykit, GPS, side mirror signal LED, etc). In the end, the price is 5K closer to top spec Civic/Altis, which ironically may sway buyers to choose them over the Sylphy.
