Just last month, a prototype of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class plug-in hybrid covered in relatively light camouflage was spotted by our European spy photographers, and now they have sent us pictures of an undisguised sedan.
As we knew before, the charging port is located on the rear bumper, below the right tail light. This differs from the placement of the also-upcoming BMW 3 Series eDrive, which is on the left front fender behind the wheel arch. This car is also apparently fitted with an active grille shutter that closes to reduce drag when additional cooling is not needed.
Also seen was a more covered up estate (the regular W205 C-Class Estate, of course, has yet to be unveiled), which has the charging port – with the top flap removed this time – in the same place.
Details about the powertrain are still unknown, but the car will reportedly by propelled by a four-cylinder engine (likely the current 2.0 litre turbocharged mill) as well as the obligatory electric motor rumoured to be producing 50 kW (67 hp). This corresponds directly with the 2.0 litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder expected to be used in BMW’s eDrive range, and moves away from the 3.0 turbo six used in the current ActiveHybrid 3.
