SPIED: Tata Xenon pick-up on the move and at JPJ

tata-xenon-spied

The Tata Xenon pick-up truck has been spotted in Malaysia – the above solitary on-the-road shot comes from reader Ani B Cat, and shows the Telcoline successor’s unique upswept shoulder line.

But the double-cab’s not the only one here – a single-cab has also been photographed at the JPJ car park, displaying its unpainted front bumper and grille, simpler wheels and huge eight-by-four-feet flatbed with drop sides.

The Tata Xenon is powered either by a 72 hp/223 Nm 3.0 litre intercooler turbodiesel or an 85 hp/250 Nm 3.0 litre DICOR common-rail diesel. Gearbox is a five-speed manual.

DRB-Hicom has a collaboration with Tata Motors via their wholly-owned unit USF-Hicom, for both fully-imported (CBU) and locally-assembled (CKD) Tata commercial vehicles.

I’ll choose a TATA anytime over any chinese made car for the reliability. Hence, there is no cheating issues like what happened to Aston Martin accelerator pedal or high content of hazardous material or doubtful safety specs.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 52 Thumb down 1
    • That Must 30 years Ancient Technology Used in a Tata.

but if it come within RM50k to RM65k for all variant, Then it justify enough.
      Great to move Malaysia Economy.

I hope they will make them as reliable as their sister brands – Land Rover and Jaguar!

    • I hope that is sarcasm. And also Tata has 0 involvment in the design or engineering of JLR, all they do is send money to britain.

Not true, if you been reading the UK car magazines lately, TATA is very much involved in Land Rover design, platform and engineering. They even had say in the Evoque project.

    • Expensive does not mean reliable. LandRover is not a great reliable brand. Typical English Cars – Problems.

Unless it’s a LandRover Defender – Tough and Basic.

Most pickup player today come with 330nm n above n some goes for almost 500nm tork….223nm for 3.0cc is a joke ! Even 1 ton lorry with 2.8cc n aged 20 year use direct injection are far superior than these…. it will more cheaper but dmax n hilux ( secondhand )are better buy from these problematic pickup…

OMG?! Who will buy this car? 72hp for 3.0liter is a waste! Even 2.5liter triton vgt can get 172hp!

  • The power and torque seems very low for a 3.0L CR diesel engine. Seriously, 28.3 hp/ 83.3 Nm-per-litre is shamed by even the 2.5L non-CR engine in the Triton Lite Turbo.

  • NEVER ever by TATA! My dad bought a TATA and the car was really badly made!
All parts don’t fit properly and squeaks. The engine had no power when new. The fuel meter stopped working since day 1. The car feels so heavy and under power, the overtaking in highway is simply scary and dangerous.

After 1 year usage, the engine is even weaker than new and the car becomes even more noisy.

Finally, after 3 years of usage, my dad sold the car for a mere 20% of its original value… It is a total waste of money and 3 years of horrible experience.

Trust me… Don’t get this car.

Problem is the after support with Tata since the first badge of telcoline

No doubt the selling price are cheaper compare to other brand.

But as a typical car buyer, why should I put my risk into it? Why not I get a secondhand hilux, or other pickup truck like dmax in which has plenty of support from the local shop.

A typical secondhand hilux of 6-7 years old can most probably last for another 7-10 years if properly maintain.

car is new, reliability is very important.
