Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy – first details on limited-edition revealed, #UNDER8 on the ‘Ring?

Renault has unveiled the first photos and details of its new limited-edition Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy today. Like its name, the car will get a 10 hp power bump over the ‘regular’ Megane RS 265, along with various other upgrades including an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system as well as options for Ohlins Road & Track dampers.

A teaser image of this new Megane RS variant was released in late April 2014. It was a cropped shot of the rear diffuser, with a carbon fibre-tipped Akrapovic exhaust system integrated neatly. The image had the hashtag #UNDER8. We think it most likely means under eight minutes for a lap on the Nurburgring.

You see, the previous Megane RS Trophy was the Nurburgring front wheel-drive lap record holder until the Seat Leon Cupra 280 snatched it away with a time of seven minutes 58.4 seconds. We know the new car also does under eight minutes from the #UNDER8 hashtag, but will it be able to beat the Leon?

Other than the power bump (275 hp and 360 Nm from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm), the Megane RS 275 Trophy gets new livery. It also gets numbered door sill guards. Inside, the RS 275 Trophy comes with leather and Alcantara Recaro bucket seats with red stitching.

The same hue of stitching has been carried over to the rear bench seat, while the headrests feature Renaultsport badging. Other interior highlights include visible red stitching for the Alcantara steering wheel trim and handbrake gaiter, as well as an alloy gear lever knob.

More details will be unveiled when full details of the car are revealed in June. The first deliveries will be happening in October.

“The image had the hashtag #UNDER8. We think it most likely means under eight seconds for a lap on the Nurburgring.”

You mean…. 8 minutes? If it is under 8 seconds, it will beat the land speed record!

I think there is a typo in the second paragraph, last sentence:
“We think it most likely means under eight __seconds__ for a lap on the Nurburgring.”

Hahaha! If 8 seconds, the car sure got time warp capability or something like it.

There’s a teaser video of the car on Youtube. Sounds menacing.

Yeah, since the 996 GT3, everyone’s running the Green Hell to get some times for their new cars. I understand how James May feel about it, but performance cars are probably forgiveable, not passenger cars.

  • I will take this car anytime over a Nissan GTR. Yes GTR is great yet Bulky & Big. This car is Small & Nimble. A lot of fun with this car :).

Not all GTR drivers are good. They only have the straight line power to beat you, but do they have what it takes to drive around the corners? It’s all up to the skills of the drivers!

If you are a good driver you should be able to drive any car without much hassle but you just need a good car to go a little further (more fun) and my 2 choices of car would be this and the Honda Civic Type R! it will give me plenty of control and a big smile everyday :)

Renault megane is produced by french so thats reason they look alike with PSA peugeot and citroen. Nowadays we have witnessed that never under estate frenco technology although the german is in lead and no one els including japanese car maker can beat them.. But it is undeniable the much improvement in french auto technology is a fact and personally i think in designing espcially interior built is much more detailing and impressive as compared with others…

  • I can’t help but feel the suspicion that this would killed the yet to be born new civic type r. Honda might have proclaim their aim too soon for others to catch up even before they get it rolling. when the hype dies, so does the car. the osborne effect
