Another one-off concept makes it to the racetrack in Gran Turismo 6 – the BMW Vision Gran Turismo joins the PlayStation 3 racing game’s fold as part of the Vision Gran Turismo vehicle line-up, which already has the likes of the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

The BMW race car is equipped with a virtual 3.0 litre six-cylinder inline engine developed by BMW M, with 549 hp between 6,200-7,300 rpm and 680 Nm of twist at just 1,900 rpm. A sequential six-speed transmission, operated by gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, distributes engine power to the driven rear axle.

Weighing in at 1,180 kg, highlights of the Vision GT include a perfect 50:50 axle load distribution and the promise of optimum handling and control. Front and rear spoilers ensure optimum down-force, while all air conduction elements reduce drag and lower the vehicle’s total weight through the use of carbon fibre.

Design-wise, crisp proportions and a dynamic silhouette give the car the appearance of speed, even standing still. There’s homage to the successful BMW touring cars of the 1970s as well – the livery, finished in BMW M colours, recalls the era and of BMW Motorsports successes.

Aside from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, design teams from Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, Bertone, GM Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, Jordan, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT (Chrysler), Volkswagen and Zagato are each delivering a concept for the game.
