Say hello to the European Toyota Yaris, the supermini which just received a facelift last month. Name’s the same, but this Yaris (Vitz in Japan) is a different car from the Toyota Yaris sold in China, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. Ours is essentially a Vios hatchback.
This latest Yaris is made in France for not just Europe, but North America as well. For the first time, the Product Planning Department and R&D Division based in Brussels and the European Design Centre at Sophia Antipolis near Nice worked hand in hand to develop a car. 85 million euros and 576,000 hours of R&D have been dedicated to it, more than 1,000 new parts have been designed and Toyota Motor Europe (TME) contributed 75% towards the car’s creation.
The work carried out in Belgium and France on fundamental aspects – exterior design, interior design and platform – has been fully adopted on some versions of the Vitz produced in Japan. This exchange of know-how is, for TME, the first tangible application of the new thinking advocated by Toyota’s Global Vision revealed in 2011 by company boss Akio Toyoda.
The Yaris adopts the new cross-face look first seen on the new Aygo city car. At the rear, the redesigned bumper incorporating a diffuser, the introduction of a new LED rear light cluster with light guide patterns and the sculpted licence plate garnish give the five-door hatch more presence on the road.
Inside, cabin materials have been upgraded in both feel and appearance, while equipment and choice of colours have also been diversified. The new Yaris has also benefited from “major work” aimed at significantly improving suspension comfort and sound insulation, including a new torsion beam.
The European Yaris remains available with 1.0 and 1.33 litre VVT-i petrol engines, a 1.4 D-4D oil burner and a 1.5 Hybrid Synergy Drive model, which makes up for almost one out of three sales. See our Yaris here.

OMG…Wah for the front…but yucks or puihhh for the rear.
Well done on outlook, interior and specs. Malaysian will cry in gratitude if we make it ckd here.
If we are bringing this in, Proton may considering stop GSC project. Stop buring payer money – our money.
“we make it ckd here”, sound like shame loo is now promoted and own the umw ya.. lol

Hello Proton, that is GSC main competitor in Europe ok!
Jaguh kampung jangan takut lah…5 star Ancap, 10 airbags, ABS ABC XYZ full-specs semua ada…lawan tetap lawan…
Kalau nama ‘Global car’ jangan jual 7 negara saja…why not to USA whole Europe China India and other 120 countries???
If still not laku, Proton blame who next? The entire world car buyers?
Ya ya ya…go back blame Perodua again lah….Sore loser! BUA HA HA HA HA HA HA
This car is too ugly to compete with any cars, yuck!
Actually the main competitor to the GSC would be the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo, Renault Clio, Opel Corsa. Those are the big ones. The Yaris isn’t too successful, though compared to other Toyota models it is doing really well.
Yes, and this Yaris also fall into this category too.
Why D-4D techology called as oil burner ?
does it burn engine oil ?
It’s one of terms used in the US market(like petrol=gas there). Just that at paultan, they like to mix everything up, regardless of whether it’s a common term used by us; and could be because the text was in reference of a US car site.
Facelift for ASEAN: New bodykit.
Facelift for Europe: 85 million Euro.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this facelift was more expensive than developing the “New” Vios.
Looks rather nice, this Yaris. If Toyota has invested so much in developing this car, why not bring it to Malaysia too?
@PT: I’d like to see a review EU Yaris vs our Yaris. Would be interesting.
Ugly Darth Vader facia, yuck!
this will launch in Aust this coming September
When will they recall this batch of Yaris?….
Rear cancelled copy 208, but copy Suprima S~
Uncle Sam is now so busy with Government officials from a few countries to close export/import permits for used kimchis. No time to tiu kimchi owners anymore. But would encourage more to buy new kimchis to prime the pump for
This design just doesn’t attract second glance. So ordinary. A practical and reliable car for sure but that’s about it. I am so dissapointed with Toyota.
