The facelifted Wingle 5 isn’t the only Great Wall coming to Malaysia; the pick-up truck will be joined by the Great Wall Haval M4, as promoted on Great Wall Motors Malaysia’s Facebook page. A soft launch for the compact SUV will happen in the third week of June, which is less than a month from now.
The M4’s arrival is not a surprise, because a left-hand drive example has been living in the Green Oranges showroom in Glenmarie since January, and ads soliciting bookings appeared on oto.my in March. A starting price of RM50k has been suggested.
The Great Wall Haval M4 is powered by a 1.5 litre engine with 105 hp and 138 Nm. The VVT-equipped unit will be available with manual and automatic transmissions in Malaysia, and the latter could be in conjunction with 4WD. The compact SUV will be locally assembled in Gurun, Kedah.
RM50k compact SUV anyone?
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Cheap.
Now, Engineer @ site got chance got get a company car.
Last time Kembara = Company Engineer Car.
Now: RM50k M4 SUV.
Siap dengan nama ‘M4’.
The low price is actually VERY attractive…
…
..
.
wait what did that Tiguan cost just now? To be fair that’s a bigger, stronger car with turbo but with the difference of RM 130k…
A good ‘kembara’ replacement model :D
cheap with quality is good but cheat is no good.
RM50k? How can imported car selling cheaper than Proton? Or means Proton is over price?
The difference in taxes isn’t big between local cars and imported (probably CKD?) ones.
This is a really, REALLY cheap car. Extremely cheap to produce. Don’t expect any quality or safety.
will wait for 1 year maybe..if got decent feedback, surely will buy 1.
M4 for 50k. So cheap! BMW overcharging with their M4! ><
MY BODY IS READY. BRING ON THE HATE.
DAMN I miss that Profile pic…..
Anyways, I dont think that price diffrence is that bad…I mean look at tjose poor folks who ordered themselves a Murcielargo LP-670 SV, Imagine their rage at Lamborghini Malaysia when Proton launched Their Saga SV and Persona SV.
Omg you’re right! I totally forgot the murcielago had a superveloce using the ‘SV’ .
Theres no way I can look at the SV variants the same anymore. :(
new ford. haha
erm… This one.. looks like Volkswagen Tiguan.
erm…
Sorry to ask: are Chinese made cars:
1. reliable?
2. maintenance cost same as japanese? or lower?
3. long term usage ok?
TQVM.
Sorry to comment : IF this is proton:
1. reliable?
2. maintenance cost same as japanese? or lower?
3. long term usage ok?
TQVM.
If the quality is decent why not.Its cheap relatively. But the best part is when ppl ask what car you are driving, and when you answer “im driving an M4” ppl will think you are driving a BMW M4…hahaha.
is it penang people need drive to kedah for service?
tedious
proton sales might be affected again..
myvi sales might be affected also. for a similar price bracket, why not have this instead of myvi. engine also from a detune toyota/daihatsu engine
with the latest investment from perodua/daihatsu with their new state of the art manufacturing plant, gearbox plant, and latest engine plant, i believe perodua can survive..
I read that the 1.5L engine is related to the engine in the Avanza (1NZ-FE). Anyone got more info about this?
It’s Great Wall Engine.
but it resemble Toyota Avanza 1.5 engine.
however, this is only a copy version, not made nor QAQC by Toyota. Reliability is not there. Finding through online u can see there are reliability issue of Great Wall Engine.
since when avanza use 1NZ-FE?
not sure Avanza engine or 1NZ-FE.
but the output resemble closely to Avanza’s 3SZ-VE instead of 1NZ-FE.
1NZ-FE is used in Vios. Would be too cool to see this Budget Engineer’s car-to be so fuel saving.

Support Great Wall Motors. Don’t make fun of them.
They are giving many young Malaysians jobs and careers by assembling their cars in Kedah instead of Thailand or Indonesia like most non-national car companies. GWM has mentioned that they have intentions to export the assembled-in-Malaysia cars to other ASEAN countries as well.
GWM may not make particularly good cars, but at least they mean well. In the next decade, GWM will definitely grow to great heights, as will all other major Chinese car companies.
Agreed with you on the jobs part but could it be also that those countries provide great incentives and a stable automotive policy for those ‘large’ carmakers to make ‘big’ investments over a given period?
We humans always look for the best offer/deal and i’m sure that if one’s going to invest a few billion they will also look for these same qualities. Afterall, they don’t ‘owe’ it to us to give our rakyat jobs. :)
sounds decent and warrants a chance.
I have neither driven nor ride on a Chinese car, but my personal experience with Chery is bitter, it was on display at one of the mall, the Eastar and Tiggo, and the door creaks, forgivable in a 20-odd year old Saga, not a Showroom-fresh car no matter what price; Strong plastic smell and fiddly fit and finish. It is about as good quality as a 2nd, badly modded Wiralution. And I am worried this will be the same.
But hey AVH, didn’t you say you like GWM?
So why do I like GWM? and espacially the Wingle, its honesty…..It’s a truck!!. Its very utilitarian, its cheap, The cargobay is made with strong Maotanium and what brakes in the interior isn’t going to matter because theres nothing there, it’ll be replaced like the 2-din radio. Its like cars of the 80s, anything brakes and get the hammer. No computer or anything. To many extand its a 1st gen Toyota Hilux. Hey boss its broken, I’ll just celophane tape it. And if it is one thing the chinese make awesome, are cheap and cheerful, no refinement whatsoever, workhorse. The M4 isn’t that.
Put it this way, The Chinese Commercial car industry is about 25 years old(Hey Proton!), the Chinese Military Industry…trucks, tanks and so on, thats 70 odd years already!
To be honest…I’d rather drive a Proton over some Chinese made crap. Until it is proven to be reliable and safe then I’d go for GW
Hi Eddie, how you know this car worse than Proton before you test it? Please open your eye to the world, china’s technology already growing higher than us.
Is that a 2nd gen Vios steering wheel?
price start from RM50k looks cheap and affodable price. later 4×4 could be more interesting.
if this model gets positive feedback from owners on certain period.
it may put into consideration to replace my blm anytime soon.
Lets compare fc and co2 emission between proton and great wall
there nothing to compare with proton, since gwm had obtained their eev license. go define what is eev.
http://paultan.org/2014/04/09/first-eev-manufacturing-license-issued-gam-great-wall-motors-products/
Already place the order for manual one. No matter good or not, it is very cheap. And be assured, like what we heard from the deepest heart of fellow malaysians for the past 30 years—“no car worse than poton car”.
now i can drive m4, my macai can also drive m4. although mine is bmw and my macai one is greatwall la.
Cap Ayam like kedai 2 linggit punya barang…
Nowadays you buy a car pakai & buang.. jgn simpan ..ada faham
i think this car shd be far safer and more reliable after watching this review and video on the Australian site
http://www.northlandautos.co.nz/great-wall-motors/how-safe-are-great-wall-cars/
i meant far more safer and reliable than our Potong since the Aussie gave a quite positive review on it
Nice car, but we can call it “small SUV” version, i did test drive last weekend, handling smooth, cornering smooth, the interior and exterior also nice with RM60K OTR, u can have this kind of car? why not? go and test drive, u will say local car cant compete with the value of this car u spend.
Can m4 drive at least 10year or 200k kilometre? If yes surely I will buy if not bye bye …
Anyone who going buy m4 listen carefully ,drive for three year then sell it only get ten thousand u know great wall quality ..
attrack me
