Audi RS7 Sportback facelift – lightly sharpened looks

audi-rs7

Audi showed off the facelifted A7 Sportback late last month, including the S7, so this RS7 Sportback facelift doesn’t come as a surprise.

Like the variants below it, the RS7 gets a sharper-edged single-frame grille (honeycomb motif for RS models) and a reprofiled bumper with distinctive air inlets. Like before, the central air inlet bears conspicuous ‘quattro’ lettering. Three optional packages – matte aluminium, gloss black and carbon – gives buyers a trim choice.

The headlights, adapted to the new grille, come with LED technology as standard. Audi’s Matrix LED headlamps are optional, available exclusively on the RS7 Sportback with a darkened look. The tail lights also have a new design. New colour options include Floret Silver, Glacier White, Mythos Black and Sepang Blue. The latter, name inspired by our F1 track, is a pearl effect hue.

In the black cabin, dominated by the RS sport seats, the designers have revised the instrument cluster, the air outlet controls of the vent nozzles, shift paddles and the quattro emblem on the instrument panel. The standard MMI navigation plus with MMI touch now uses the modular infotainment platform of the latest generation with graphics processor by Nvidia.

The 4.0 TFSI bi-turbo V8 is unchanged, pushing out 560 hp and 700 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm. The 0 to 100 km/h benchmark is completed in 3.9 seconds, while top speed is 280 or 305 km/h, depending on optional dynamics packages. A ‘cylinder on demand’ system can shut down four cylinders during partial load.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox channels drive to the quattro permanent AWD system, which can be had with an optional sport differential on the rear axle. RS7 owners can choose between air suspension with adaptive damping or the optional, tauter RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control. Further options include dynamic steering and carbon fibre-ceramic brakes.

  • Although I don’t see myself buying this car.. Partly because I’m not an Audi fan, I must say “damn! Sexy car”… Probably the second sexiest car after R8

i have never been a fan of Audi’s design of recent years, except the R8, and definitely no fan of the original A7, but i have to say this facelift of A7/S7/RS7 really changes my perception. Audi really nailed it this time, and if this is any indication of how Audi is going to design its latest models, i can see Audi regaining the title of maker of sexiest german cars again, like in the early-2000.

Looks like Audi nicked Volvo’s new headlamp design language outright
