The Ducati 1199 Panigale Championship Edition was launched at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) race at Sepang last weekend, unveiled by Ducati WSBK riders Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano.

Based on the 1199 Panigale, the Championship Edition sports unique livery and a back seat cover signed by the Ducati Superbike team riders. Other enhancements include the addition of a full Termignoni racing exhaust, Ducati Corse Smoke Windshield, Ducati Carbon Clutch Casing Cover and Ducati Performance Aluminium Mirror Blind.

Limited to just 10 units, the RM160,888 price is similar to the April 2012 base launch price of the standard Ducati 1199 Panigale.

First seen at the 2011 EICMA show, the Panigale is the Italian brand’s flagship supersports bike. Powered by the Superquadro L-twin engine, it has 195 hp (at 10,750 rpm) and 132 Nm of torque made at 9,000 rpm.

“To further excite the market, we are amidst planning to introduce yet another Ducati superbike with an attractive pricing below RM99,000. This, we believe will enable more Ducati and premium quality motorcycle enthusiasts to join the world of Ducati,” said Juan Chow Wee, GM of Next Bike.

There’s no doubt current Ducati offerings are superb, it’s just that perhaps Ducati should consider producing entry level sportbikes to attract more younger buyers – am talking about full-faired sportbikes in the similar vein as Ducati 500SS/600SS or Supermono. Right now the more affordable Ducatis are mostly nakeds. Not all young Ducati Superbike fans are into naked/non-faired bikes especially Asian region. And with the current rising demand for entry level sportbikes below 600cc , as can be seen by rising trend of OEMs (Kawasaki,Yamaha,KTM,Honda etc.)offering these types of sportbikes, Ducati should seriously consider entering this segment..

Khairy is NOT an idiot, in fact he virtually “owns” KLIA II. I know he’s laughing out loud now.
