Volkswagen Passat B8 teased, still under drapes

passat-teaser

A further teaser of the next-gen Volkswagen Passat (B8) has surfaced, showing the car under drapes. Shining through them are the 32-LED U-shaped DRLs mentioned earlier, and taut against the cloth are a prominent swage line and wheel arches.

Set to be revealed online next month, the B8 promises to be lighter, faster, more fuel-efficient and more tech-packed than ever before. It’s also set to be a looker – sketches have shown a flush headlamp and grille assembly, a scalloped area under the tail lamps, twin tailpipes and a low-slung roofline.

Despite it being slightly smaller than the outgoing car, the new Passat will offer more headroom, more legroom and more space in the boot. It’s also set to be stiffer and up to 85 kg lighter than before.

Engines will range from 120 to 280 PS in output, including a 240 PS/500 Nm 2.0 TDI Biturbo that when connected to a seven-speed DSG and 4Motion AWD, makes five litres per 100 km possible.

A plug-in hybrid will also be offered, with a 156 PS 1.4 TSI engine and a 109 PS electric motor combining to provide 211 PS, a 0-100 km/h time of under eight seconds, a 210 km/h top speed, a 50 km all-electric range and a total range of over 1,000 km.

Now, gadgetry. Replacing the analogue instruments will be Active Info Display, a configurable 12.3-inch LCD. Next-gen Modular Infotainment Systems will feature larger, higher-res touch-screens, faster processors and MirrorLink smartphone integration.

Also new are a tablet-controllable rear-seat entertainment system, 360-degree Area View with a new obstacle detection feature, next-generation Park Assist that can now perform semi-automatic forward parking into perpendicular spaces, Trailer Assist, variable-ratio steering and an Easy Close system for the estate that, when activated, will close the tailgate when the user walks away with the key.

Plus, a new Traffic Assist system will use the adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist function to steer, brake and accelerate the car automatically at speeds under 60 km/h. City Emergency Braking now reacts to pedestrians instead of just vehicles, and the Side Assist blind-spot system now also counter-steers if the driver continues to steer into an occupied lane.

Damn it sure looks nice in that cover pic! Looks like the new-gen TT. Now if only they ditch the 7-speed dry clutch dry for a wet clutch unit and price it not too far from the b7… it’s gonna be a hit!

No matter how new the body or engine is, DSG is DSG. 10 speed or 7 speed, DSG will breakdown in Malaysia continuously because of our hot weather.

VGM still have not addressed the DSG problems for hot weather countries

It’s different if it uses a wet clutch system instead of a dry clutch system (which is what most DSG are using). Wet clutches would have more cooling capabilities.

Did I read hybrid there? And the Passat is already CKD’ed in Malaysia… if VW has any sense they will CKD the hybrid. They could price it very competitive.

If i read correctly, this car will come with the brand new wet clutch 10 speed DSG gearbox and not the 7 speed DSG as written in this write up.
