It still looks pretty fresh and was just launched in Malaysia early last year, but the current Honda CR-V actually made its debut at the 2011 LA Auto Show, going on sale in the USA in December that year. That makes it just over two years old now, which makes it ripe for a facelift in about a year’s time, if it keeps to the regular five-year lifecycle.
This is the first time we’re seeing the facelifted Honda CR-V on test, and while it’s wearing black tape as disguise, plenty of the facelift’s details can be made out from under the covers.
We notice that the front grille has been revised from a triple-bar design to a double-bar design, exposing more of the bottom half of the grille, giving it a sportier look. The foglamp shape on the front bumper have also been switched from a circular design to a rectangular one.
From the side, we notice that the CR-V gets new alloy wheel designs that look similar to the new Honda City’s. There are also some visual changes at the rear – we can see there’s a new bar that runs across the back where the Honda badge is. That same area is currently flat but finished in black. The rear bumper has also been reshaped.
Of course, we can only observe exterior changes from these spyshots. There will probably be some revisions to the interior as well. We think the cabin will at least gain a new head unit that supports those new HDMI ports that Honda seems to be putting in all of its new cars, including the facelifts.
Don’t get too excited yet though. The CR-V facelift is still quite some time away from a Malaysian launch. The next-generation Jazz will be the next Honda car to be launched in Malaysia. For now, if you’re interested in a CR-V, read our Honda CR-V Test Drive Review or read owner reviews from existing CR-V owners.

i believe u can’t afford to buy this car that’s why u condemn this car
looks more sportier, slightly aggressive, i think CRV should looks like that.
My wish list especially for the local FL CR-V 2.0l model:
– Front parking sensors
– HID lights
– Bluetooth telephone & audio!!!
– 6 airbags
– Electric leather seats
– Navigation
– Keyless entry
Seriously Honda Malaysia, your 2.0l model damn kosong spec compared to your main rivals. Which vehicle in this day of age that costs over RM100k does not have bloody Bluetooth?
I seriously hope you guys at Honda don’t repeat the kosong spec mistake in the upcoming Vezel and Jazz launches.
Becoming more and more like soccer-mum car….
I hope crv will discontinue it production until something more exciting is in the pipeline.
Watching paint to dry is more exciting than seeing crv.
Fugly! Still ugly! really speechless… Piece of junkie junk
Please do some good work at the rear. Current CRV is horrible from behind!
CRv is seriously underpowered, both the 2.0 and 2.4, Honda needs to add a turbo.
Even smoked by preve
As the most popular SUV for so long in so many countries in the world, it sales has now been eaten away especially by the increasingly popular Mazda CX5. Being Complacent is the mistake that Honda has made with the current gen CRV. A facelift would not do much good. Unless and until Honda wakes up to this new reality, they will continue to see sales eaten away still.
Nothing special about this facelift as it’s meant for US version. The american CRV presently comes with “diamond” headlamps rather than projector headlamps. Perhaps peeling off the masking tape of the headlamp may reveal LED DRLs. :)
