Range Rover Sport SVR to debut at Pebble Beach

Range Rover Sport SVR Goodwood

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the second car to come from its Special Vehicles Operation (SVO), the Range Rover Sport SVR, will be unveiled on August 14 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The hotted-up Rangie, which made an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier in the year while still in camouflage, will use the uprated version of the company’s AJ-V8 Gen III 5.0 litre supercharged V8 that also sees service in the Jaguar XKR-S, XFR-S, XJR and F-Type R. The mill punches out 542 hp and 680 Nm, 39 hp and 55 Nm more than the standard Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

Drive should be channeled to all four wheels through the same Quickshift eight-speed automatic gearbox fitted to the F-Type. Despite its performance credentials, the SVR will retain the use of a low-range transfer case and has the same 850 mm wading depth as the rest of the Range Rover Sport range.

Various sources quote a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of about 4.5 seconds and a top speed of around 265 km/h. The company also released a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time – at 8 minutes 14 seconds, the SVR is claimed to be the quickest SUV around the legendary Green Hell.

The Range Rover SVR joins Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations lineup, sitting alongside the Jaguar F-Type Project 7. The latter, a fully road-legal D-Type-inspired speedster, will be making its Stateside debut at Pebble Beach, in a new Glacier White hue.

Also on display will be the first prototype of the new Jaguar Lightweight E-Type, a continuation of the original 1963 run. Only 12 of the planned 18 race-bred cars were built more than forty years ago, and the new Jaguar Heritage team, part of Special Operations, will be building the remaining six.

Why our Proton models never debut in fancy Pebble Beach? Always debut in crappy KL. No standard.

They should build more of the Etype Jaguar. I still feel that it is the most beautiful car ever built. But building only 6 of them now will bump up the price to more than 600,000 pounds.
