The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has made its ASEAN debut – Garansindo Inter Global launched the SUV in Jakarta on Tuesday, more than a month ahead of its planned debut at the Indonesian International Motor Show 2014.
Our friends at AutonetMagz have kindly provided us launch photos of the sole KL variant available in the republic right now, the Cherokee Limited. The range-topping all-wheel drive Limited will eventually be joined by the Sport, Trailhawk and Longitude AWD variants, as well as a front-wheel drive Longitude version.
The Cherokee Limited is powered by a 2.4 litre Tigershark MultiAir2 four-cylinder engine – the mill, offering 184 hp at 6,250 rpm and 232 Nm at 4,800 rpm, is mated to a nine-speed auto transmission, with a Jeep Active Drive I AWD system and Selec-terrain traction control system in the mix.
The kit list includes 18-inch polished/painted alloys (with 225/55 tyres), cruise control, heated front seats (!), dual-zone air-conditioning, halogen projector headlamps with LED DRLs and silver-painted roof rails.
Also on, a seven-inch TFT colour display user-configurable instrument cluster, a nine-speaker Alpine sound system, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a dual-pane sunroof dubbed CommandView as well as Nappa leather upholstery.
As it goes along, two other engine choices will join the fold to make an engine lineup similar to the Australian market – these are a 3.2 litre Pentastar V6, with 268 hp at 6.500 rpm and 316 Nm at 4,400 rpm, and a 2.0 litre CRD turbodiesel offering 168 hp at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm. There’s also mention of a 138 hp tune version for the 2.0 litre CRD.
The Indonesian KL Cherokee range shouldn’t differ much from that expected here when the brand makes its return to these shores. Back in June, DRB-Hicom announced that its subsidiary Edaran Otomobil Nasional (EON) had been appointed as the exclusive Jeep distributor in Malaysia by Chrysler.
The KL Cherokee will be one of the four models EON is bringing in, and it’s set to compete with the likes of the L359 Land Rover Freelander 2 facelift (which is cheaper than the Cherokee in Indonesia), possibly even the BMW X3. Based on the vehicle’s Rp. 799 million (RM217,000) pricing in Indonesia, it should likely sit somewhere in between the duo price-wise when it arrives here.
The other three models will be fourth-gen WK2 Grand Cherokee (which sits on a platform derived from the third-gen W166 Mercedes-Benz M-Class), the JK Wrangler and Compass. Sales are due to begin in October, with the establishment of a 3S (sales, service and spare parts) Jeep centre in Glenmarie kicking things off.

Buy Proton no AP tax and import tax, build quality comfirm by Tun DrM himself Proton a global brand but must with global price la…
Proton proud of malaysia.
German brand and Japan conti all go eat dust expensive and no quality.
Heated seat is available on many cars now. Usually coming in a bundle, like if you get the sport seats (which you need for leather) it comes with the heating feature. Or maybe a sunroof comes with heated seats… car makers always make you buy stuff you don’t really need/want by bundling things. Europeans may really want the heated seat function, but not what comes with it, in Malaysia you really can do without, but there is some other feature the importer/distributor thinks necessary.
Mmm…the Cherokee actually looks pretty good. The front, especially. Just feel that presence!
needs a facelift
this doesn’t look cheap…if that’s so, i would rather go for something that’s cheaper & yet perform as good as this.
believe there are many choices around.
Having owned a Jeep Cherokee, I had nightmares with expensive maintenance and expensive spare parts. Glad it was all over.
As long as its not UMW sushi, you will have peace of mind and safety.
