The Land Rover Discovery Sport has officially reached the final stage of development, and Land Rover has announced that the company’s newest small SUV will be unveiled on September 3.
Testing of the new model, typical for a Land Rover, has been rigorous – 181 prototype vehicles were built, together amassing around 1.2 million km across some of the most hostile terrain and completing 11,720 tests to meet the company’s standards.
These vehicles were taken to the extremes, from freezing -36 degrees Celcius in North America, to blazing 42 degrees Celcius in the deserts of Dubai. They have also been up 40-degree inclines and down 45-degree slopes – both steeper than an Olympic ski ramp – and have been tested to water depths of up to 600 mm.
The seven-seater Discovery Sport will be the first member of Land Rover’s new Discovery family which echoes the Range Rover lineup, and will replace the Freelander that has been a staple of the company’s range since 1997. The new car is expected to make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October.

Isn’t this date close to when the Jaguar XE is also going to be launched by JLR?
Yup, the XE will be unveiled five days later, on September 8. But we’re also expecting a rush of launches from other manufacturers throughout the month of September, what with the Paris Motor Show fast approaching.
Ah I see. So it’s gonna be a really busy month in September then. Wondering who else is coming up.
Pretty intrigued to see the new Discovery line though, especially considering it is going to replace the aged Freelander2
As long as it is not kimchi, it will have RV.
