Just last week we came across the Chery A3 hatchback in Petaling Jaya’s 3 Two Square. Stark naked too, it has to be said. Fast forward a few days, and yet another yet-to-be-launched model caught our (smartphone) camera’s attention on the same road – the Chery V5 MPV, this time.
The people carrier’s shape, if not the details, should appear familiar to Malaysian motorists. Why, it’s essentially a heavily reworked version of the relatively popular Chery Eastar MPV. Both its front and rear ends may have been given substantial makeovers, but its side profile has hardly changed at all.
There’s a completely new face up front, complete with large swept-back headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The change is even more dramatic round the back – the Eastar’s vertical tail lamps being replaced by a wide horizontal LED light strip that’s not unlike that on the Honda Civic Tourer.
Details are scarce at the moment, as the updated MPV has not been launched in any notable regions yet – its native Chinese market included. The current Chery MPV uses a 134 hp/180 Nm 2.0 litre ACTECO engine and four-speed auto combo.
Local distributor Chery Automobile Malaysia has been rather relentless in keeping the original Eastar MPV in tune with the times. First introduced with a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4 litre engine in 2008, the seven-seat MPV has been regularly updated since – with Chery’s in-house-developed 2.0 litre ACTECO engine in 2010, and various up-kitted versions such as the 2012’s ST and most recently, the RM94,040 Eastar XT.
Seeing that this new one has already been seen running completely uncovered in Malaysia, it should be launched sooner rather than later. So, what do you think of this heavily reworked Chery Eastar MPV?

still ugly as usual…
Overall looks quite up to d times (rear lamp cluster looks like from an inverted ACR50 Estima though)
But d biggest question remains – how well is it put together? My 1st encounter at d showroom when d 2.0 arrived was just pure dissapoinment.
i agree with an inverted ACR50 Estima
But I think its more like what Hafriz wrote, the rear lamps looks just like Civic Tourer..
useless brand from china.
ugly and useless
good try…
tail lamp looks like estima turn upside down..
well done! not many willing to spend lots $ for facelift model, at lease p1 & p2 will not do so… price is still a key point.
reminds me of euro civic tourer
Estima inspired.. Lol.
Common Chery, pls learn more from Geely.
Geely full scored and expert in imitating.
Its like, they put together all the bits and pieces from the industry. Good effort. There will still be some market.
Just want to know if it’s put well together. Last time I can remember the fit and finish was terrible with gaps and misaligned fitments. If Proton is what you call bad, this was 5 times worse.
the tail lamps reminds me of estima…
Luckily i have not eaten my lunch yet.
still sucks… get a life ar another killing machine with lousy China car…
I just want to know the crash rating result… safety is my priority as a family transport!
Front:New Ssangyong Stavic
Back: Current Estima ACR50
Actually looks quite nice. Period.
Another junk fruit from China. Why they name it Chery for a car. Damn funny….
LOOKS BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS MODEL….
i think it has a better look than Proton Exora.. may be it is time for Proton to facelift the Exora..
u can buy if want to use until broken into pieces coz no used car wanna buy or trade in china car…..
That color…makes it look so dated! Why did they think that color was a good idea?
super ugly shit..!
Yea,i remember the pre-facelift for this at klims 2010. When i pulled the lever of the second row seats, the headrest went right into my face ._.
The front looks like the last gen kia forte…specially da grill…… Curent gen actually i see quite often on da road….surprisingly…
wanna die in a car crash? get a chery!
Copycat at its best..Two of my colleagues already had a hell time with Ateco engine..Damm rubbish and i dare say pre 90s Kia engine is more better than this though the make up is eye pleasing.
still better than potong.
Look like estima.. lol
Is it just me….But can those Chery Easter driver please kindly switch off their Fog lights at night when its not raining or Fogging!!
I’m always get blinded by their freaking rear red “Fog Lights”!!!
It’s always good when companies constantly makes improvements on their cars. It makes the car industry more vibrant. Definitely better than the Alza and Exora. Good competition :)
Btw, did you know that the Chery company was founded in 1997 and already making cars at par or better than our national car makers? Don’t simply criticize
i must say that this design is ok!!! good job!
Retard Estima
The car look good, very nice interior and exterior
