PDRM planning to use electric bikes in the capital from October, also considering hybrid patrol cars

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are planning to use 30 electric motorcycles in the capital from October, to reduce fuel costs, Bernama reports.

Bukit Aman police logistics department director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said that apart from electric motorcycles, the police are also considering hybrid patrol cars for nationwide use.

“(Translated) The use of hybrid powertrains are expected to save 35% of fuel costs, besides being eco-friendly and reducing carbon emissions by up to 30%,” the national news agency quoted him as saying. The report adds that the use of both vehicles by the police is still being studied.

In January, we reported that PDRM would be testing the Revolo bolt-on hybrid system installed in one of its Proton Inspira patrol cars. Revolo is marketed by DFRAN Technologies, the chairman of which is ex-Proton MD Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin.

Originating from India, the parallel hybrid system’s electric motor has a maximum torque of 35 Nm, and can provide motor assist of between 80 to 100 km on a full charge, Syed Zainal said at the time. The system is claimed to improve fuel economy by about 35%.

Police inspector-general Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said at the time that PDRM had about 3,000 patrol cars in its fleet, with an annual fuel cost of around RM28 million.

Malaysian have been enjoying Proton hybrids (absolute crap build quality & fuel blackhole engine) since decades ago.

Where is the 10 units of Mitsubishi Evo Lancer 10? is it fuel efficiency is main issue in PDRM right now or competency were much more important? you suppose increase police quantity to walk on the street instead of patrolling with vehicle. utilise your man on securing the safety instead asking them setting up stop pit for summon..

The reason of that amount of fuel cost = Preve CFE

    • Modern cars these days are either less fuel efficient and powerful, or less powerful but fuel efficient..

Preve CPE => less power, bad fuel efficiency.

    two types of hybrid:
    1. hybrid.
    2. plug-in hybrid

    Revolo = plug in hybrid.
As far as concern throughout all brands outside. from European to Japanese.
Plug in Hybrid Cars are the worst reliability car.

on the other side, hybrid cars are more reliable than average.

    • ‘Plug in Hybrid Cars are the worst reliability car’

So the new Toyota Prius is the ‘worst reliability car’?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 6 Thumb down 3
      • yes.
basically there is 2 type of Toyota Prius.

        1. Prius Hybrid.
        2. Prius Plug In Hybrid.

        in American consumer review.
Toyota Prius Plug in hybrid is the lowest reliability of a Toyota. Oppositely, Toyota Prius Hybrid = BEst reliability.

Sames goes to Honda and Ford and Chevrolet.
Plug in Hybrid = Worst Reliability.

FYI, Malaysia hybrids are all Non-Plug in hybrid, which are almost Perfect in reliability. Peace of mind to own a Prius C, Prius,Lexus CT200h, Jazz, CRZ and Civic hybrid in Malaysia.

Please…. don’t implement any improvement on those vehicles…

You expect you outrun those criminals with your P1 hybrid vehicle

The Rakyat only hope you could maintain safety and improve on it.

Social safety has nothing do with fuel consumption or emission.

We all know what’s your motive behind these backs.

Decide properly on your automotive policies before adding more complicated ideas. Every few years they change the NAP and car prices are going up and down all because of that. Look at all the hybrid vehicles.

I thought JPJ had difficulty classifying electric bikes?

Maybe this would have a silver lining. Since police use bikes still need to pass and get certified under JPJ, maybe it will set a good precedent.

  • What a joke. There are still so many proton waja and polis traffic bikes that are unused in the station. Everyday I pass by the main polis traffic station, there are so many bikes untouched. So few patrol cars on the road summore. Why buy more if we still have lots of unused patrol car? Seriously wasting money.

the only way to save fuel is stop by more for teh tarik, not that electric bike or evo x can lower the crime rate or fuel consumption for them.

Awesome. Using these new tech stuffs can enhance image of Malaysia Police or our country. Although might need to pay more to buy or maintain. But price and maintenance cost are always not a concern in every new project. It can be settled eventually, no worries.
