Suzuki will be launching its new Suzuki Ciaz – a new compact sedan in India under its Maruti Suzuki brand. The car was first previewed as the Suzuki Authentics Concept, and was later renamed to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Concept for the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. It will replace the Suzuki SX4 Sedan in the brand’s line-up.
In India, the Suzuki Ciaz will come with two engines – a 95 PS, 130 Nm 1.4 litre petrol engine, similiar to the one used in the Suzuki Ertiga MPV, and a 1.3 litre DDiS turbodiesel engine capable of 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel model is rated at 26.21 km per litre, which is impressive economy, while the petrol variant is claimed to be able to do 20.73 km/l.
The car sits on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, which is C-segment territory, but Maruti Suzuki aims to pit the Ciaz against the likes of the B-segment Honda City in India. The body of the Ciaz measures 4,490 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, and 1,485 mm in height.

The first on par with axia
For the size of the car ate no complaint. But why rear headrest can’t adjustable and rear seat can’t fold…Overall if with six airbag and ESP,it’s worth to buy with under 85k
Suzuki Malaysia is under DRB so the Ciaz sedan price must be minimum 2 times Proton Saga price or RM40K X 2 = RM80K.
No basher here about copycat ?
rear light is honda city look alike.. very clear,
why ? because its a suzuki , not a proton.
If this a protons , sure gonna be big issues on the design.
copycat issues mainly.
yea your right, apalah nasib proton kita.
The answer is Suzuki never say anything BIG like “make Global car and Global standard”.
But Proton owner does !!! So no expectations pls don’t say anything about Global.
Tun love spyshot.
Nothing big since Proton exports cars to other countries as well. Either it’s in big scale or not that’s different story.
Suzuki = Jaguh global for compact & fuel economical carmaker
Proton = ??
So what? If you are too good then you won’t be here bashing LOL
This is the consequences of having bad fuel quality where we don’t get to enjoy the fuel economy and power of a turbodiesel.
Sure thing… This looks much classier then vios and city…
#Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn. Bhd.
We need this.
this is the Most Interesting, no more Proton Rosmah, pls.
I dun think so, PCC is far more beautiful
The rear lamps are near identical to the Honda City! WTH?? But overall, nice looking car for a B-segmant :-)
Normal practice, you dun get used to it
agreed .. but no one gonna complain as it’s a suzuki not protons
wait… the front looks like the old teana J32
not a proton’s or perodua’s , so .. no complain,
also , old sylphy look-alike …
not a p1 or p2 , so no problem about the design..
The interior space looks very impressive. The latest B-segment cars are so close to or even exceeding the C-segment in terms of spaciousness. The diesel engine can be qualified as an EEV here and will be a good choice if not for our poor Euro 2 diesel.
Judging from the design, this is a seriously good alternative to vios and city, but is the 1.4L engine good enough for our market? Suzuki need to put in at least a 1.5L (1.6L would be better) engine into this car for our local market.
There’s really nothing wrong with a 1.4L engine, in my opinion. It all really depends on how good the gearbox is at extracting that power from the engine. You can get a really fantastic engine but if you pair it with a dumb gearbox, it’ll ruin the driving experience completely.
The 1.4L engine might win on the fuel consumption battle but if we look at the competition in the B-segment, mostly are powered by 1.5L & 1.6L engines.Somemore the Ciaz body besar. MyVi 1.5 pun boleh tapau ini kereta. Gearbox is one contributing factor for the car’s acceleration, but I still think that 0.1L/0.2L engine cc deficit could hamper the car’s performance given that big body size.
The MyVi 1.5 should be able to handily tapau this car but life isn’t always about smoking others. If the guy below is correct about the weight of the Ciaz (I have been unable to verify it using other websites; didn’t look hard enough), then the power-to-weight ratio of this car would better the Swift and won’t be too inferior to the MyVi.
This is most likely designed as an urban car in mind so the 1.4L engine is adequate since a 1.5L engine’s full potential is rarely achieved in city settings unless you’re in a deserted part of the highway. Puttering along in a traffic jam, the Ciaz would fare better than a 1.5 MyVi economically and it looks more comfortable to be in as well.
Better than typical Korean car.
This is much practical, no jokes at all.
Korean puts safety 1st with all range 6 airbags, stability control.. r u sure this Suzuki puts safety 1st? if not, then it’s no better than the Korean car
200nm of torque is tempting…
We need eurodiesel stat!
yeah …,
your tyres gonna wear out very fast
That’s what restraint and traction control are for.
2650mm wheelbase!!? That is nearly equal to the C-segment Preve & Focus. I mean seriously, they have managed to maximize the interior similiar to c-segment, by using a small B-segment platform footprint (judging from the short bonnets & overhangs-front & rear).
Honda City 2600mm
Almera 2590mm
vios 2550mm
hurmm, about the same….
50mm-100mm difference not gonna affect that much
Very sad that the Authentics Concept got toned down so much. The concept actually looks production ready and the angles and curves on the sheet metal looked so pleasingly cohesive! Also sad that the dual exhaust pipes had to go. Oh well, another down-toning casualty. Oh and look, rear aircond vents.
Agree, the Ciaz concept has a much sportier feel & sleeker look than the production version. And Suzuki should have carried over 100% the front-end & rear-end design (including those fantastic looking front & rear headlamps) of the Ciaz concept into the production version! But I guess the Suzuki top bosses are’nt too pleased with the radical & youthfull looks..sigh..
Suzuki Ciaz
hmm, the last word of Z should take out and take on CIAO lol
No, better change to CHAO
pls sell here..more choices for us.
Will it be under power?
Yes only vios is not underpower according to SA Same Lorrr
1.4L… 95ps… 130nm…
same like my 1.4 swift..so far i have no complaint about the engine performance of my car but am not sure how the 1.4 engine performance with this sedan…
Swift kecik & ringan..ini sedan besar, for a B-segment car..
am quite surprised because ciaz is lighter than swift… swift is 1055kg but ciaz is only 1010kg…
“The wheelbase is 2650mm, overall length is 4490mm and width is 1730mm. The figure you should be most interested in though is the kerb weight: 1010kg for the petrol and 1105kg for the diesel. The weight of the body in white has gone down by 56kg to 307kg despite the Ciaz being larger in every direction compared to the SX4.”
suzuki cian review by thrillofdrivingdotcom
typo = ciaz not cian hahaha
just want to add on :
“The petrol engine is the same 1.4-litre K14 from the Ertiga with 91.2bhp at 6000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4000rpm. As you can imagine, for a car of this size, the 1.4 engine does feel a little inadequate and has to be caned to make quick progress on the highway, which is when it does get a bit too noisy as well. But that said, for a 1.4, the claimed 0-100kmph time of 11.7 seconds is actually quite good – and that’s down to the 1010kg kerb weight giving the Ciaz a very competitive power to weight figure.”
not so bad for 1.4 sedan car
swift kerb weight is 1055kg and ciaz kerb weight only 1010kg.. and ciaz can do 0-100kmph in 11.7s so i think not so bad for 1.4 sedan car…
Swift is heavier but can sprint faster? 10.9s from 0-100 ??http://www.um.co.za/specifications/suzuki_swift_1_4_gl_(2011).aspx
Thinner metal sheet perhaps but how many NCAP star? 0?
please bring the city and vios contender asap. if suzuki auto msia can place a right price for this sedan i bet some cake slice of b segment will be grabbed by suzuki
honda city rear light copy from BMW also what? so, what’s the fuss? just copy the good things
