BMW is preparing a BMW M2 Coupe to slot in above the M235i Coupe. You could probably call it a successor to the BMW 1 M Coupe. We’ve previously only seen early prototypes of the car wearing M235i bumpers, with only widened fenders hinting that it could be an M2.
Today our spy photographers have sighted a new BMW M2 prototype on the Nurburgring wearing bodywork that’s closer to how the production M2 will look like. The new bumpers are a lot more aggressive than the M235i’s, and there’s also BMW M’s signature quad tip exhaust pipes at the rear.
The BMW M2 is likely to use the same S55 3.0 litre twin turbocharged engine found in the BMW M3 and BMW M4, which can produce 431 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. In the M3 and M4, it’s mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed M DCT automatic, and we expect the combo to be the same in the M2.
While we wait for BMW to debut the M2 to the public, read our BMW M235i review or watch the M235i in action in BMW’s Driftmob viral video.
