Proton Compact Car to be launched this month, top spec of “game changer” to match direct rival in price

Proton_Compact_Car_PCC_Iriz_003

Proton CEO Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah said today at a special media preview event that the much-awaited Proton Compact Car will be launched on September 25 at the Tanjung Malim plant, where it will be built.

He revealed that the baby Proton sits on a “completely new platform” and will be powered by “all-new engines.” Deeming it the “game changer” for the national carmaker, he said the Proton Compact Car’s top-spec variant will go head on against its direct competitor in terms of price.

Although he did not say it, the PCC’s direct competitor is widely accepted to be the Perodua Myvi. The top Myvi 1.5 Extreme goes for close to RM60k. Is that the ceiling price we can expect for the new B-segment Proton?

As for the base (lowest) price, we were given an estimated figure of “below RM45k,” but of course, this is far from confirmed. Compare this with Perodua Myvi prices on CarBase.my. This is just the first in a barrage of info on the Proton Compact Car to come your way today – stay tuned for more!

In the US, one can buy a Toyota Corolla (Altis) with 8 airbags for USD$12,000 after the discounts. That is RM36,000.

Nothing more than 60k eh for the top spec?

I’d say they’d probably match the price structure of the Myvi actually. 55-60k makes it smack at the price range of the Picanto, which would be smaller, but has sold in decent numbers.

New platform, new engines. Improve the quality of assembly, parts used and after sales, if they can prove these three are done, I’d say this might actually be the last nail for the Myvi.

Open you eyes and your mouth. Chain or belt is nothing. Only for those without money always a problem. Do not monopoly car with chain because it like communist you can’t choose just take it. It a free market don’t disturb other people business. You do yours we do ours and be rich together not only you.

that is because Perodua cars are just a bunch of unwanted metal scraps donated by Toyota so that those metal scraps can be honorably disposed. Perodua never actually develop a car of their own, they only rebadge the old Toyota and Daihatsu models. and yet, they claimed Myvi as a genuine national car which is the best joke ever in the automobile industry. we should salute Proton for their endless determination and hardwork in producing a new car for the ordinary people of Malaysia so that more people can buy an affordable car. a car is not build overnight, it needs many years of development and of course, government support just like Hyundai and KIA which are fully supported by the South Korean government, especially during the late President Park Chung-hee’s era.

Good luck to Proton, they really made it a point that this car will change everything so let the product do the talking.

Almost 30 years for them to actually produce a proper model so of course the public is generally negative about Proton especially when the government helped it so much with tax payers money when they could have spent it on other more pressing matters like education and infrastructure for the nation.

AFAIK the after sales still needs some tuning so just selling the car isn’t enough to convince the public that Proton is back in the game.

The car has yet to be launched. No one has seen in in the flesh. All we have is details of specs and how it looks like in photos.

I’ve seen spyshots on this site which suggest that its almost as big as the Myvi and the previous Honda Jazz.. unless the photos are some sort of illusion.

So many comments on why taking so long to launch – well, better late so they have time to reflect on all the test results.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but to shoot the new new Proton down is premature unless you have some super psychic skills or time travel ability.

Maybe we should rejoice with the appearance of both PCC and Axia rather than feud about it. Proton went through dark days, but we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. They dug their own grave during Mahaleel reign, but slowly they are rising. The issue with some of us is ‘slowly’, that P2 surged ahead.

P2 is not much more of an assembler, taking advantage of the national car status. Combined with the parents’ economies of scale and their market segment, they are nimble. They aren’t tied down to bad cronies. To drive costs down, they have sourced parts from China (lest u all should know if one day, typical Chinamen greed drives them to produce sub-standard parts). Their R&D are cosmetics to put a local touch and identity to largely Japanese, China and recently Indon designs.

Proton has been blamed by many for the high taxes we paid for our cars. Proton do not collect the taxes, but the govt does, read that. It was in the name of protection, but it shall not go away anytime soon since the govt wouldn’t want to let go of this easy revenue stream, even if Proton folds….. Personally, I don’t mind if Proton or P2 make their slice of profit since this means jobs and social security to some (and more taxes paid).

What we should really root out are the AP cronies who make undue, under-declared incomes from Malaysians who loathe and wouldn’t touch the Protons and P2s. To correct the imbalance, we have to educate the govt that they can increase their revenue from this stream (of under-declared income); and pass on the benefit to the masses rather than the select few. From the 5% who holds 95% of the wealth.

There’s much more than can be done but I don’t need to dwell on it here. Enough that we support either of our local products and we ask them to repay our faith with good product and satisfactory services.

Everytime proton release new model, they will always say game changer la, global car la. Apa apa pun ada. In the end, they juz sounds like soap opera with all the crying, blaming, excuses excuses, talk cock talk cock.. Then ask gov for more rakyat money.

That’s their track records and it’s a fact. Those proton fan boy, if u unhappy with that, make sure u pay and support proton with your own money. If not, stop talking cock cuz i for one as a free rakyat choose not to support with our tax money. If u didn’t pay with your own money, then go back and shut your self up. Walk the bloody talk if u r juz as good as proton. Empty weasel makes the most noise.

That what Toyota, Honda, Nissan and so ever do. This business game. You can play the game but you don’t others to play . I appreciate you can see the game. Let everybody play the game not only people like you. Everybody else can’t play. That monopoly and not professional. If you go to UK or US that combined to gather to support their business. What happened to you ? Give a positive comment and suggest for the betterment.

If anyone of you are rich enough, just go ahead and buy Toyota Honda or whatever you like. For me, I would rather get a decent model from Proton / Perodua and spend the rest of my money on other places like investment / traveling / vocation, instead of paying 80%+ duties to the gov.

And what’s worse? Most of us have to get a car loan from bank to pay those duties, so you pay duties + interest. Banks and Gov will be super grateful of you.

Yes Proton & Perodua have cars have duties as well, but the amount is much lower. And Proton & Perodua have been improving, slowly. Take a look at KIA before Forte era.

Yes off course you can buy any overseas car proudly and bash Proton hardly, but afterall, the duties you pay still going back to much pretty the same place. Are you still feeling pride and proudly now ?

  • This car arrives late. Proton never realise that this car should launch about ten years back when Myvi and Swift were introduced in 2005. Instead, Proton answered the glory of Myvi with Savvy which, needless to say, was a huge failure.

  • My 9 yr old manual savvy is an underated car. Try to ram it from behind and you will regret it, like one camry who knock my back. My Savvy only had a scratch. It saves fuel and comfy even on long jouneys unlike the sampan rides of Perodua.
