It looks like the B-segment Renault Captur will be getting a big brother. This is the first time a new prototype SUV by French manufacturer Renault has been spotted. You can easily tell it’s a Renault from the face, which is quite recognisable despite having loads of camo on.
We can’t be 100% sure, but based on the size of the SUV’s body in relation to the occupants, this new Renault looks like a smallish C-segment SUV, which means what we’re looking at is the next generation Renault Koleos. The size of the prototype leans more towards the size of the 5-seater Nissan Qashqai rather than the larger Nissan X-Trail, which can fit an optional third row of seats.
It’s about time the Koleos is replaced, as it’s gone through two facelifts already since its debut in 2007. This means it’s been around for about seven years, which is a couple of years more than the typical lifecycle of this product segment, which is normally five years.
Like the Qashqai, the new Renault Koleos should be built on the new Renault Nissan Alliance CMF platform. The 116 hp, 190 Nm 1.2 litre turbocharged TCe 120 engine from the Captur should be a perfect fit in the engine bay, and so would the Alliance’s 1.6 litre turbo with 190 hp and 240 Nm.
