Lamborghini Asterion LPI910-4 concept revealed

Automobili Lamborghini has revealed the company’s first plug-in hybrid, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI910-4 concept. The Asterion is a technology demonstrator by the company, representing what is possible with current technology and manufacturing methods.

As with all current Lamborghini models, the LP in the name stands for ‘longitudinale posteriore’, with the I being ‘ibrido’ – hybrid in Italian, 910 for horsepower and finally, the 4 standing for all-wheel drive. The name ‘Asterion’ is inspired by the proper name of the mythical Minotaur – a part bull, part man creature.

A monocoque made out of carbon fibre forms the basis with the 5.2 litre V10 FSI – same as the Huracan, in the middle. Power figures should be familiar as it churns out 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque. Transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox located behind the engine at the rear transaxle.

The lithium ion battery can be found in the central tunnel area, where the transmission usually is. Combined with three electric motors – which provide 300 hp of assistance, total output is rated at 910 hp. This enables the Asterion to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.

Two available drive modes are on offer, a hybrid mode and a pure electric mode – which gives the car a range of 50 km. In this mode, only two electric motors in the front are online. When hybrid mode is selected, the engine and three electric motors are activated – providing permanent all-wheel drive.

A new colour, dubbed ‘Blue Elektra’, makes its debut on the concept. For the first time on a Lamborghini, the active air cooling system featured on the front air intakes have a double layered grid – one made of metal and the other titanium, embedded into each other.

Wheel sizes are 20-inch and 21-inch designs shod with Pirelli tyres. A transparent rear engine cover allow a glimpse into the engine bay while the signature Lambo-style scissor doors are gone, replaced by doors that open outwards at an angle.

Inside, the seats a positioned higher to allow easier access and improved comfort – which suits the intended cruising role as opposed to an all-out supercar. Aluminium, forged carbon fibre and titanium are found throughout the interior while a combination of ivory and brown leather further add to the atmosphere.

  • looks more civilized than huracan/aventador (interior/exterior) despite being more powerful. IMO it looks like the Ford GT / GT40 from sideview

    • Agree it looks a lot like Ford GT/GT40, and IMHO it lost the ‘Lambo outrageously bloodthirsty’ look which is what a Lambo ‘soul’ is all about…

That kind of performance does’nt sound impressive , given this is 910 bhp hybrid car….

A very nice looking car nonetheless, but Lambo should just ditch the hybrid system and just maintain that Huracan’s V10, and make it this car a proper normal proper/normal 4-seater GT. That’ll be more tempting to the Lambo buyers out there.

This concept’s looks doesn’t grow onto me. Hope it just stays as a concept but the tech underneath the metal awesome.

I think they had the old Miura in mind when they designed this. It has the same profile as the Miura. Beautiful.
