The covers have been pulled off the SsangYong XIV-Air and the SsangYong XIV-Adventure at the ongoing Paris Motor Show. Both concepts preview SsangYong’s upcoming B-segment crossover, the X100, that is set to be unveiled in January.
The two XIV (eXciting user-Interface Vehicle) cars showcase the brand’s new “Nature born – 3 Motion” design language and its “Robust, Specialty and Premium” development philosophy. The XIV-Air, interestingly, features an open “T-top” roof, while the XIV-Adventure is fitted with more rugged trimmings such as bumper protectors, a cargo rack on the roof and a search light.
Both cars measure 4,195 mm long, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. That’s 78 mm shorter (with a 81 mm longer wheelbase) than the Ford EcoSport but 36 mm longer (wheelbase 62 mm longer) than the Peugeot 2008.
The interior of the XIV-Air (the one in the XIV-Adventure has not been shown yet) has been toned down significantly over the previous XLV concept and looks practically production-ready. Trimmed in white and dark blue, it is said to be inspired by the shape of a bird’s wings in flight and features a portrait-oriented centre display that is fast becoming the norm in the industry.
That screen is connected to a new MP3 audio system with USB, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, as well as AUX input, a screen mirroring function for smartphones and a reverse camera. The cabin also features dual-zone automatic climate control and power-adjustable heated front seats with ventilation on the driver’s side.
The XIV-Air is powered by a 1.6 litre diesel engine, while the XIV-Adventure is motivated by a 1.6 litre petrol. Both mills are Euro 6-compliant, can be mated to a choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and are available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
SsangYong is touting the safety features of the XIV concepts, which include an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), hill hold assist, seven airbags (including one for the driver’s knee) and a safety restraint system that prevents occupants from being ejected in the event of a rollover.

Open air hmm… hope it comes with attachable roof in case of rainy days. They should make it some sort of convertible roof. Now that might sell.
