Hyundai Experience Car Fest 2014 in KL this weekend

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) will hold the its first Hyundai Experience Car Fest 2014 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium this weekend, from October 10 to 12. The event will be open to the public, with plenty of complimentary driving experiences and family activities in store.

A variety of vehicle performance tests – including obstacle avoidance, braking and steering techniques, as well as a slalom course – will be on offer to showcase Hyundai’s ABS, EPS and suspension technologies. An off-road experience with the company’s 4×4 models is set to wow participants too.

Test drives of Hyundai’s popular models will be available as well, of course. Those interested to join the event are encouraged to register first by calling 1-300-13-2000 or by visiting Hyundai Malaysia’s Facebook page for more information.

The Hyundai Experience Car Fest 2014 will run from 9:00am to 6:30pm daily. Next up, the event is scheduled to welcome Taman Tebrau in Johor Bahru from October 17 to 19.

      No problem with Hyundai, but HSDM with that kind of selling price it won’t go any where. Even car fest won’t help much.

      Face the fact sime darby your marketing strategy are failed.

      Fact is this, unfortunately, unlike Naza, Sime Darby’s Automotive brand division thinks they can sell cars the UMW way, in some of the brands, i.e. Hyundai, BMW and MINI. Notice how these three brands here are the brands that are locally built by Inokom. They reduce the features to make them class competitive, but nothing class leading. Fit and finish is mediocre to above average, but that is not really their fault since Hyundai’s interiors are a bit cheapish compared to Kia’s, from what I noticed on their overseas models. BMW’s and MINI’s build quality is there, but sadly they bring in the standard interiors, not the Extended Leather which covers nearly every surface with leather. Mercedes was smart, to introduce their ARTICO artificial leather dashboards, to improve the perceived quality without breaking the bank, but BMW’s is standard or real leather only. Aftersales is trash, coming from my experience with dealing with them (you can see my past experiences on Carbase with them), again because they have full power.

      Then you have act II of SD. This is the AutoConnexion, Auto Performance and Auto Britannia, where AutoConnexion does direct imports of fully CBU Fords, Land Rovers, Range Rovers and recently Jaguars. Auto Performance does the whole Porsche line while Auto Britannia holds the McLaren line. If you notice Act II is much better executed, most if not all the models are class leaders like the Focus, Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost, Mondeo being a favourite of many people and journalists. Then comes the Land Rover and Range Rover’s highly specced and pretty decently priced cars, while Porsche’s side is pretty much business as usual, specced in the same way as the foreign markets. McLaren is in the same case as Porsche. Service overall, bar Ford, has been very good in Act II, for one very simple reason, unlike Act I where SD actually is a whole owner of the local franchise and most of the day to day management is run by them, in Act II, there are actually a fair number of people direct from the manufacturer who are running operations with the SD boys. Because of that, the SD boys won’t screw up so much. My past experience with AutoConnexion was significantly more efficient, things are done faster, and when things get shitty, just a bit of bang table gets things moving again, much faster than dealing with Hyundai, BMW/MINI and all of Act I.

      Also another thing, in Act II, most of the brands are lower volume brands, so SD doesn’t have that much say in the spec list, the parent company just forces their global offering down, a good thing for us. Its when they CKD, that’s when the problems begin. Naza was one of the few who didn’t throw out specs when they CKDed the Kia models, and it became synonymous for Kias and Peugeots in Malaysia to be packed with a lot of tech and gadgets. So because of that, they know that Honda, Nissan and Ford are catching them with the same strategy, they can’t back down cause if they do, customers will end up at Nissan, Ford and Honda instead.

      In the end, we won.

        Really mouthful explanation, but the little i know of Hyundai models in Malaysia, its almost full specs other than

        1) the Leather seats, glass windows and misc compulsory parts which they gotta source locally to qualify as CKD.

        2) sunroof not optional in some lower end models

        3) smaller screens for Headunits

        I believe other makes in Malaysia are doing the same, be it BMW, MB, Audi or KIA even

        In short I dont really follow what you wrote

          Not really, in fact, Hyundai models in MY have rather empty specifications compared to the global market.

          ie: the i10 is only available with ABS on the 1.25 variant, and ESC is not available. The Elantra does not come with curtain and side airbags as standard, only for the 1.8 Sport variant which costs an arm and a leg. Santa Fe is without any form of side airbag and curtain airbag, when it’s sister car from Naza, the Kia Sorento has them both.

          Not necessarily, as many of the foreign makes come with the parts partly assembled or from the country of origin of the car. A BMW car, all the parts used are the same ones that are used in the German units. From the oil filter, to the door panels, to even the plastic trim, it says Made in Germany. Headunits for the most part are more or less the same, at least in all the Germans, Honda and Kia, they follow the same one available globally. Hyundai and Toyota have a local version of the head unit, generally.

        Sime Darby screw all the alfa owners with their bad after sales. I swear never to buy another alfa if it is under sime. If only Naza brings in alfa, then maybe got hope with their wide network of dealers.

        Anyway, alfa is already gone with sime dropping the brand. Pity those owners whose car is still under warranty and auto connexion ask those owner to f**K off as they won’t bother to entertain the alfa brand.

    If you go test drive, make sure there is a tow car on standby. Korean cars are never reliable and their spare parts are excessively priced.

        VW has long solved the DSG issues. I have never heard of any complaints on this or seen any VW breakdown on road for a long time.

        This morning saw 2 K5s and Hyundai Tucson broke down on the road, kesian the owners. Just this week alone I have seen more than 20 Korean cars breakdwon… I hope they wake up from their Korean dream…

          Some of them still pretty new, passed through some workshops in Serdang, 10 out of 6 is Korean brands.

          Worse? More like nobody could afford one from the second hand market. How can you put a RV price when nobody from the 2nd hand market can afford? Meanwhile Hyundai cars 1 year depreciate more than 30%, 2nd year half the value gone.

      Hahaha. Hyundai is wayyy more reliable than maserati. In fact they are on par if not better than toyotas which spare parts cost a bomb too these days.

      You hardly see a hyundai on tow. I’ve seen more toyotas on tow than hyundais.

    Inokom Hyundai fetches lower trade in value than Hyundai, but still can trade in, unlike KIA.

    The only reason for lower trade in is because they cannot be re-exported to Sri Lanka and India.

    They are only fit for local consumption

    The truth is spare part for honda and toyota is cheaper because the volume of car is so much here…. The issue is the workshop owner doubling the price when charging the customer…. If you so called car enthusiast is clever like a certain surgeon that i know of… This dude downloaded catalog of spare part and bring it to the shop and bargain it to basement prices that he managed to reselll it again with profit….this clever guy is definitely better than most workshop owner…

    Your comment that Korean cars are unreliable and the parts are expensive is simply nonsense. I own a Hyundai Getz and this car has never given me any trouble. Cost of parts are almost the same as any other makes. The thousands who own Hyundai in the States and Europe or even Singapore – mind you they are no fools – in fact they know cars better than you do. The only compliant is the after sales service – to me the Proton fellows are more professional!
