SPYSHOTS: Next gen Audi A4 B9 begins testing

Audi-A4-001

Audi is preparing the next generation Audi A4, which should be codenamed the B9. This is the first time we’ve seen a prototype tested with the actual next generation body (heavily camouflaged, of course) – previous prototypes have been sighted wearing the old B8 body panels.

With the F30 3-Series set to be facelifted soon and Mercedes-Benz rocking the segment with an all-new C-Class, the new A4 can’t come sooner enough. The new Audi A4 will be built on an upgraded version of the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform called “MLB evo”, which we will first see on the next generation Audi Q7.

Spy-Shots of Cars

MLB evo is said to be MLB upgraded with more ultra high strength steel, aluminium and composite bits, helping drive weight down. The new Q7 is said to be much lighter as well.

The MLB family mounts the engine longitudinally, but two wheel drive versions will drive the front wheels just like the current B8. There’s also the option for all wheel drive of course, using the marque’s quattro system.

just wondering why they can’t just put an E behind MLB and call the platform MLBE instead of MLB evo? sometimes i really don’t get the naming logic of the germans.

The Evo probably denotes evolutionary? As its an update/upgrade of an existing plank, rather than a totally new plank?

Its about time. Even though the B8 has only been around since 2008, it feels longer than that, for some strange reson. Nothing really bad about the car. But the competition has moved up by leaps and bounds.

By the pictures, the overall profile does resemble the A3. But with a more pronounced cabin rearward design, which is typical of RWD longitudinal engine’d car. It looks handsome so far. Will have to reserve more comments until we get to see the car without all the camo.

So the next gen Audi A4 will still maintain that ultra-conservative but clean body profile theme, just like its VW & Skoda siblings. The front/rear lights will be more modern & radical looking though & should feature the latest in LED/Laser lights technology.

This is my verdict!Regarding from the pictures,it`s a really nice car. I wonder how the interior looks like? I hope it looks like the A3 combined A6.But i won`t want the rounded air vents as it does not suit a Saloon body style.

I hope it won`t have the Matrix LED headlights either because it would be an absolute overkill for a C-segment car

Finally we get to see the final body design. Looks evolutionary to me and I think by the time it arrives here it would be fighting with the F30 LCI and the W205.

The current B8 has decent spec but I think it’s high time the German premium marques start adding driver aids like Blind Spot Assist, Cross Traffic Monitor, etc to catch up with other cheaper manufacturers.

The F30 and W205 entry models do not even have adaptive lights or true keyless access for example which is a shame.

I was in Hartsfield Airport in ATL two weeks ago on my way home and I started talking to four German men that were in the security line with me. Turns out they worked for Audi in management and were returning to Germany after meetings in the U.S. They said the A4 was getting a complete redesign and were quite enthusiastic about it. So I don’t believe these photos I think it’s of a sham to throw the public off. The new A4 will be revolutionary.

From the back i can see the rear end looks like A3 sedan and front end like new Audi TT.Would be nimble and much good fuel comsumption with weight reduction plus the quattro system.
