The recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG GT is set to receive two new styling packages, designed to enhance the aesthetic value of the car should potential owners find the normal one a little bit too bland on the eyes. Following the Night package, the Silver Chrome and Carbon styling packs are now available.

It consists of a restyled front splitter, a redesigned rear diffuser, new wing mirrors and fender fins. As their respective names suggests, the Silver Chrome package has all the bits listed above in chrome while the Carbon package has them dressed up in carbon-fibre.

Both the styling packages are on offer for the car in its basic spec as well as the more powerful ‘S’ variant. A quick reminder on the specifications, the normal variant is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8 unit with 456 hp at 6,000 rpm and kicks out 600 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 5,000 rpm.

As for the ‘S’ version, the same engine produces 503 hp at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 1,700 rpm to 4,750 rpm. The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 3.8 seconds with the less powerful variant stopping the clock in 4.0 seconds. Drive goes to the rear via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in both models.

It does have its performance credentials all nailed down…but I would go out on a limb though. For a coupe, looks come first. And this, I dont think, is pretty enough.

I mean if you put this next to the F-Type or the Vantage (if the new Vanquish would be a preview of things to come) or anything coming out from the Italians….MB could have taken a little extra step but didn’t.

I guess we have to wait for something like a Black Series Edition for the uprated version. The 4 liter V8 Twin Turbo in the AMG GT is definitely an understressed unit, with a few tweaks it could easily hit 600bhp mark and still with good reliability. But frankly speaking, Merc AMG need to start working very soon on the more powerful version of the AMG GT, as its main rival cars namely Porsche 911 series & Jaguar F-Type Coupe currently already offer more powerful versions(Porsche 911 Turbo S & Jaguar F-Type R).Merc AMG could lose potential customers who are craving for more horses.
