Honda Accord Euro to be terminated globally in 2015

Honda has officially announced that production of its Accord Euro model is set to be discontinued in 2015, with no immediate replacement in the pipeline announced. “February next year will be the final month of production for Australia,” said director of Honda Australia, Stephen Collins.

Rumours of the Honda Accord Euro’s imminent demise surfaced as far back as 2012 but with Honda’s official confirmation, it appears the Accord Euro is no longer destined to live on. Honda Australia has cited dipping sales figures of the Accord Euro as one of the main reasons for its end.

Apparently, even the full-sized Accord sedan appears to be taking a hit in sales where the Aussie market is concerned. “To be honest, we’re a bit disappointed in the global decision for it to be discontinued,” added Collins. Australia is one of the few markets where both variants are officially on sale.

At one point in time, the Accord Euro was sold – under the guise of the Acura TSX, in America but has since been replaced by a model that has been specifically designed for the US market only. What about the reverse happening instead, you ask? Could the new Acura TLX be reengineered to replace the Accord Euro?

“They’ve launched the Acura TLX in the US, but that’s left-hand drive only,” said Collins. “There was some speculation that this could be the Euro replacement, but it’s definitely not.” With that said, fans of the Honda Accord Euro will be disappointed to know that there’s almost no hope of a replacement.

In Japan, the Honda Accord Euro was sold for a brief period alongside the full-sized Accord sedan, which was known as the Honda Inspire – the eight-generation Accord. Currently, the Inspire nameplate is no more, instead being replaced in Japan by the ninth-generation Honda Accord.

The sporty Accord will live on in China, though. Honda showed the Spirior Concept at this year’s Auto China show, and the production version of that showcar will replace Dongfeng Honda Automobile’s current Spirior, which is essentially the eighth-gen Accord Euro/Acura TSX.

Disappointing news. I’ve always been a fan of this variant of Accord. It looks much more sportier than the conventional Accord. I’ve always wanted to get Euro R but for the price of a used Accord Euro-R in the grey market, you can get a brand new Accord. Doesn’t really make sense.

I’m also a fan of honda accord euro r cl7. But the price of used one which have a mileage of more than 100k still expensive. Better just get used mazda 3 mps.

Good chance for Proton to keep rebadge it as Perdana here.

  • The current gen Accord Euro is a great car that let down by an out of date 5-speed transmission and a not so fuel economical 2.4L engine.

With such specs and price, people would automatically opt for a Mazda6, Nissan Altima or even the boring Toyota Camry or Aurion.

Honda should really give their best in updating their models with transmission with more ratios and new engines.

So what makes it “great” since u dont like the engine and da gearbox…not much left in da car to like!

I never had a soft spot for da accord…i dont kno why it feels flimsy specially the interior. ..its not exactly refined on the highway either…in 2days market there is a chock full of options to choose frm…i get it that its a honda n has alot of fans

      • You wouldn’t know how good this car is until you’ve driven one and no, engine and transmission aside there is the brilliant chassis. This car handles corners with ease despite its size. The build quality is great too, much better than the current gen Camry although the Euro is much older.

Thanks to Proton for rebadge Honda Accord into Proton Perdana. Honda doesn’t want their Accord get copied by Proton again or they let Proton rebadge Honda Legend?? Who knows

This is Honda Spirior in China, and New Spirior is more handsome than this one, larger space as well.

The Honda Accord Euo is much more popular in Australia than the regular Accord.

Honda Malaysia should have just rebrand this Accord Euro R as the Civic to capture sales . After all, it is smaller than our current Accord. However it anyhow looks better than the FB Civic by far.
