2014 Honda Jazz and City to race in Sepang 1,000 km

HMRT will test their Challenging Spirit with the All-New Jazz as Car 26 and for the first time, the City as Car 27. (2)

Meet Honda Malaysia Racing Team’s new race-prepped duo, based on the 2014 Honda Jazz and City. They replace HMRT’s winning pair of previous-generation Jazz racers, and will compete in the 2014 Sepang 1,000 km (S1K) endurance race in December.

The blue and white half-twins have been worked on since March this year, and feature special ball joints to adjust the roll centre and bump steer for better handling around the track. Both have had its internals stripped out, of course, and now weigh just 1,030 kg in race trim.

With team director Akkbar Danial leading the charge, HMRT will field returning drivers Eddie Lew, Aaron Lim (2013 S1K overall winners) and Farriz Fauzy in the new cars. The fourth driver will be announced soon.

    • Don’t see anything wrong with the CVT, since is an endurance race which CVT offers great gas mileage. Note that the 2015 Subaru WRX is also using CVT and the sales are stunning!

      • Eventhough with the CVT, the City is the best B-segment car in the market.. Just let the sales do the talking, it has totally thrashed the sales of Vios. I see so many new City than Vios on the road

There is a reason why a part called “CVT oil cooler” is invented.

3 types of CVT, steel belt, toroidal, torque converter + steel belt/toroidal.

        Maybe they use toroidal CVT.

Iriz keluaran Malaysia sudah pun ‘smoke’ kedua-dua Honda ini tahun ni, tak payah tunggu tahun depan.

‘Smoke’ itu engine smoke dari CPS yang terbakar la ya yang.

If they are indeed using manual transmission, most likely Honda Malaysia has brought in a few units of the 5-speed manual transmission from the Indian market Honda City (which should be easily mated with the Honda Jazz’s engine). This could be the possibility. I think Honda should consider manual transmission for the Malaysian market City, just like Toyota did with their Vios, and Nissan with their Almera..

The suspension mounting points could be tweaked as well as using (custom?) spherical bearings for better & more responsive handling.

great to see honda again in the sepang 1000km race. better for local racing and makes it more competitive and exciting to watch. also good to see honda still looking at motorsports as an important marketing tool for them in Malaysia. fyi.. the category of race cars shown are called MTC (malaysian touring car). They are basically production based race cars.. 1.6ltr n/a engine from the “family”, 5 speed manual gearboxes (usually), with modifications allowed to suspension, brakes, fitment of a rollcage, ..etc. honda should also ask paultan to do a detailed review of their race car.

I wonder if they still use the aluminum engine. Dont constant high temperature means disaster for aluminum engines?

Im always wondering if honda uses molded aluminum or cut aluminum block? I dont know what im talking about.

Btw, bought the City last September, it is great and everything but cant imagine for it to be used for racing – especially when the paddle version never came to malaysia.
