Mazda CX-3 – first photos leak ahead of LA debut

Here it is, the new Mazda CX-3. These first photos of the new zoom-zoom baby SUV has found their way onto the internet ahead of the SUV’s debut at the LA Auto Show this week. Looks sharp doesn’t it?

The design language is very recognisable as Mazda’s, but this isn’t just a Mazda 2 on stilts with off roader plastic bit tacked on. The front grille is larger, with horizontal chrome bars. The taller front end allows space for the number plate to sit below the grille, not in it. The headlamps have a less curvy shape here. The roof has a ‘floating’ design thanks to gloss black applied to the rear pillar area.

The interior is largely derived from the Mazda 2’s, but we think there’ll be some changes to the seat height for more commanding driving position. The design isn’t exactly the same though – look at where the dashboard meets the front door cards – the area surrounding the door handles look different.

The CX-3 already has a few competitors in Malaysia – the Peugeot 2008 and the Ford EcoSport. Honda will be launching the HR-V next year, and we think that one will make quite an impact to the market. There’s no doubt Mazda will be bringing the Mazda CX-3 to Malaysia, it’s just a question of when and how much.

The cockpit looks like a fighter jet cockpit. With all those digital panel makes the car very intimidating to drive! Wonder whether this model can reach Malaysia.

CX-3 will be powered exclusively by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine in Canada. Output details and specifications will be revealed at a later date, closer to launch.

Awesome! More choices for the consumers, this could be a real contender in the compact SUV market. Can’t wait for to reach the shores

The sub compact SUV market is getting really hot. Watch out Honda HR-V/Vezel. I prefer the CX-3 design over the CX-5. The short front overhang, longish bonnet, sharply raked windscreen & short rear overhang makes it oh so sleek. The HRV gets a 1.8 engine (in Thailand anyway), does Mazda have a 1.8 too? Cos a 1.5 might be a bit down on power when compared to the HRV. Or might Mazda shoehorn the 2.0 in front?

  • The photos showed here are very impressive. But most of the time when it launch at Malaysia, all the high spec features like transparent HUD speedometer will not be available anymore, just like Mazda 3 model… so disappointed…

Numerous thread on that particular hardware broken because of it fragility , it look gimmicky too.

I rather not having one , n yea even tho MY mazda3 dont have the digital speedometer , we got digital RPM meter which is also interesting
