Mazda SkyActiv-D 1.5 diesel coming to Malaysia 2016

Mazda SkyActiv-D 1.5 diesel coming to Malaysia 2016

Mazda’s new SkyActiv-D 1.5 litre clean diesel engine, first introduced in the latest Mazda 2, is set to make its debut in the Malaysian market pretty soon, if a recent report from The Star is to be believed.

According to the English language daily, Berjaya Auto executive director and CEO Datuk Seri Ben Yeoh said that the small-capacity oil burner will arrive on our shores as early as 2016. The mill will be assembled in Thailand at Mazda’s new engine plant in Chonburi starting from the fourth quarter of next year, so it looks like exports will begin soon after.

The Euro 6-compliant diesel engine, which features a variable turbine geometry turbocharger, makes 105 PS at 4,000 rpm and a respectable 250 Nm from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm. More impressive is the inclusion of homogeneous lean burning and the extremely low compression ratio of 14.8:1, which Mazda claims help it deliver low levels of harmful NOx emissions without resorting to expensive aftertreatments.

In certain markets, the 1.5 litre SkyActiv-D is available on the Mazda 2 (making it Thailand’s first diesel-powered Eco Car) as well as the Mazda CX-3 B-segment crossover. With the latter also set to arrive in Malaysia around the same time as the engine, could this mean that the car will be offered with a diesel option from launch?

I think the front face of the Mazda CX-3 is much much better if implemented on the Mazda 2 as well.

Europe have been regretting the use of diesel. Now malaysia want to make the same mistake?”

Dear Prabowi, Europe has been using Euro5 Diesel for a years and now going to Euro 6, only France plan to stop using diesel because they wanna go more Lower emission tech.

But Malaysia has been using Euro 2M Diesel till present(do u complaint?)..and the more cleaner diesel euro5 for the lucky certain part of johor only!!! So what kind of same mistake u talking about? Euro5Diesel or Euro 2M? If so concern abt environment factor, y make euro5 diesel so exclusive?

It is proven tht diesel has avg of 30% better mileage than petrol, provide more torque, and now almost as clean as the petrol.

To benefit our nation, plz introduce euro5 diesel to whole country, let us enjoy better mileage, better pulling power, yet more cleaner than euro2M……!!!

    • Well, diesel engine is much more efficient at burning fuel (with the help of variable geometry turbo) than petrol engine, even with our euro 2m diesel. And i read somewhere focus tdi in malaysia can achieve 800km+ in one full tank. If you own a prius, you also can achieve this kind of mileage. But word of advice, TORQUE IS KING!

This oil burner really suitable for SUVs that are much heavier than its sedan siblings and hell its about time we get to see proper intro to diesel engines…just need to wait 1+ year more.

you save not in terms of price difference.. diesel packs about 30% more energy than petrol and diesel engines are way more efficient combusting the fuel than petrol engines, hence you get more mileage/energy out of diesel molecules than petrol..

other than that, the CO2 emitted is way lower than the same cc petrol engine..
