SPIED: F48 BMW X1 – FWD SUV loses some camo

BMW-X1-2

This is the best look so far at the next generation BMW X1 – it’s dropped some of that thick camo it was wearing earlier so we can have a better look at how the lines of the new SUV are defined. So far it looks like the new X1 is leaps and bounds ahead of the outgoing car in terms of looks.

The shape of the kidney grille and headlamps do share some similarity with the 2-Series Active Tourer don’t you think? The headlamps of the X1 also don’t meet the exposed edges of the kidney grilles like all recently launched BMWs. That’s no coincidence – a ‘family’ look is apt as the new X1 will be built on the same UKL platform as the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and the latest generation of MINIs. A seven-seater version of the 2-Series Active Tourer will come later.

BMW-X1-7

The new front wheel drive platform will allow a more compact exterior. The X1 does look like it’s a little shorter than the outgoing car, but the possibilities of better interior packaging should result in improved interior space, something that the current X1 is a little short of. Engine variants should mirror whatever’s offered on the 2-Series Active Tourer. The UKL front wheel drive platform supports all-wheel drive, so there should be no issues with xDrive versions of the X1 being offered.

We’ve also previously had a peek at the new BMW X1’s interior, which you can check out in the image gallery below. What do you think of how the next generation BMW X1 is shaping up to be like? And will there be an X2 with a coupe roofline to join the X4 and X6?

Looks like a smaller X3 but lowered a bit on the roofline but looks way better then the current X1 and the reviews on the Active Tourer has been quite positive so I think it should drive like a proper BMW SAV.

The overall shape reminds me of a Mazda CX5. May not be in BMW’s favour, if people think this is a Mazda. But of course, we don’t know the design details yet, like creases, lines, etc. I’m sure BMW will try their best not to make this look like a Kodo design.

Interior is a nice evolution of current BMW dashboards. Not the best looking or the most luxurious, but functional. But what’s interesting is that manual gearbox.
