Perodua anticipating total sales of 195,000 units in 2014 – Axia gets to 62,000 bookings, 26,000 delivered

Perodua_Axia_ 001

Perodua says it anticipates total sales in 2014 to exceed 195,000 units, with numbers being buoyed by the introduction of the Perodua Axia back in August.

The automaker’s president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said that the expected figure would be higher than the targeted 193,000 units it had forecast earlier. “This would be the stretch target for this year,” he told reporters at the opening of Perodua’s first 3S ‘hybrid’ centre in Rawang.

Aminar said that the bookings for the Axia was now at 62,000 units (back in October, the figure was 42,000), and that the company had registered and delivered 26,000 units thus far. “We are working hard to speed up production, so customers need not have to wait very long,” he stated.

The Perodua 3S ‘hybrid’ centre, meanwhile, is the first of its kind – the ‘hybrid’ classification is derived from the fact that a dealer – Medan Prisma – operates the sales showroom while the service and spare parts operations are handled directly by Perodua.

Built on a 52,523 sq ft land area, the 3S centre has 51 staff – 21 in sales and 30 in service. The facility has 25 service bays and can handle 60 to 65 vehicles a day. The automaker currently has 182 sales and 176 services outlets across the country, of which 70% are sales and service dealers.

The sale figure is their Top Trade Secret, not the patented technology in the car (if they have any).

The problem with Proton management is:
      1. If disclose the shameful but true sales figure, how to make Tun proud? Fanboys feeling will be deeply hurt.

      2. If announce good but fake sales figure, of course Tun happy, the fanboys (Ah Beng) also happy. But how to beg for RM2000mil from government in 2015?

The key consideration is: How to make Tun and fanboys happy but continue to dig money from tax payers?

For them, sales figure and build quality don’t matter. “Boss, biasalah! Ni Proton mah.”

Aminar has got a good problem.Unable to deliver 36,000 more Axias as ordered, after delivering 26,000 units.
Proton, with its botak at DRB,has to take more panadols daily cos the Iriz is stagnating due to Gregory Tse’s awesome negative comments on the noisy Punch CVT gearbox as he drove the Iriz 1.6.
Whichever way you look a it,Proton will end 2014 with 120,000 units… a far cry from 138,000 units in 2013.Now even with Iriz, sales of the other product range also dropping alarmingly.Imagine, recently the 2013 Preve sold at a discount of rm14k to clear stocks.
Like in Wrestling in a steel cage,Proton is ready to be bundled into a coffin prepared by the Undertaker.
Without Iriz,Proton will end with 100,000 units sales this year only.Toyota is hitting 100,000 units with much sweat and diligence.
Proton, the writing is on the wall. The shithole is too deep.

Future doesn’t look too bright for Proton if the Iriz prooves to be a non-starter.

The big mistake is not having the Manual available at the get go. By the time it is available, the hype surrounding the car would have died down. Big mistake from the product planning people at proton.

I quite like the Iriz, despite some interior niggles (and the hugh CVT letdown), its the best proton has come up to date. The only way proton has left to salvage the Iriz is very quickly release a Turbo 1.6 with a 6 speed manual (eh? GTI?) to drum up some hype to go along with the manual gearbox variants.

            Quite the opposite I think.

The best selling Axia is the G spec auto. It can roughly translate the market wants cheapest auto the most.

Iriz main sales will likely also be the 1.3 CVT basic, RM46k/47k I think? Yet, they sell 1.3 mt basic and 1.6 CVT top spec first. Too few drive manual, too few can afford or want to pay rm63k for small car.

We stick shifters are really a dying breed, Msians are not like Europeans, who still majority drive good old manual. Msians drive auto, and rather give >9,000 excuses than drive manual. Their loss, suckers. Biar VW diorg rosak, asalkan bukan manual. Biar CVT Iriz sampah, asalkan bukan manual.

Good in a way for us actually. Manual cars are still around, they’re cheap, get more generous discounts (I’m seeing Picanto mt giving RM12k discount!!), better fc, more durable, fun… not much downside at all.

Paultan.org need to campaign for manual. Jalopnik is doing the same in America, and recently they seem to be picking up signs their campaign is working a bit.

In the mean time, Iriz’s last hope is what happens after February 2015, when their mid range specs begin production and delivery. If it fails, well, damn shame.

            The logic is simple:
With sushi cars and Perodua, quality good, fuel saving and cheap maintenance. So it save you big money owning the car.

When you are about to change car, it give you better RV also, so you top up less for your new car.

That’s why you see ppl easily step up the path “Perodua => Toyota/Honda => Lexus/Mercedes” rather than those 30 years Proton Saga running on the roads.

You think Proton owners love their Proton too much and don’t want change car?? No!! They want to change also but they just couldn’t.

Proton poor build quality and fuel hunger will burn half of your wallet, and its low RV make you NO MONEY NO OPTION to upgrade. Therefore once you start with Proton, you are forced to stick with it FOREVER.

The built quality of P2 cars are always OK, they do have the same part vendors as P1 in parts such as aircon, plastics accessories , electrical cable sets etc. This means P2 cars are just susceptible in the quality of such parts as Proton. Funny thing is P2 is always fare better than P1 in terms of customer satisfaction.

If not because of Axia, Perodua should have a big drop in total sales this year. Axia managed to save Perodua and is projected to have the same sales figure as 2013 which is 196,000 units.

It is going to be a good year for Toyota and especially Honda with a huge jump in sales while Nissan will see a huge drop in sales this year.

This is not looking so good for Proton. Up until Oct their sales is at 98k units however in 2013 they sold 138k units. I highly doubt Proton can achieve 20k unit sales for both Nov and Dec so looks like Proton will face a big dip in sales and probably only achieve less than 120k units this year.

Acrix,” if not because of Axia”…this phrase should not exist, cos those Perodua guys took the trouble to copy and paste and come out with a winning product to help the poor rakyat hit by high car taxes on other japanese marques.
Proton should have come out with Iriz sooner but cos of the stupid PUNCH CVT gearbox, sales are stagnating and going into reverse gear now.

Proton Fanboys you are right about one thing: Proton just want to fill up their stock. They don’t care selling the cars. That’s why Iriz hardly seen on the road. That’s why you can still get 2013 Proton for RM13k discount now. Proton cars are not meant to be driven, but for extensive UV testing under the sun for months (or years).

Cars can sell or not? Never mind, we ask RM2.0bil from government next year lor!

In reply to your previous post where you said Iriz wins Jazz in terms of performance, FC, safety and handling.

        Iriz have better power?
Jazz 118hp/145nm vs Iriz 107/150nm hp and Iriz has a bigger engine. Torque figure is higher for Iriz but when you factor in the weight it will perform worse than Jazz.
Kerb weight: Jazz 1081kg vs Iriz 1185kg(extra 100kg!)

        Iriz better fuel efficiency?
Rated economy on Carbase: Jazz 5.6L/100km vs Iriz 7.4L/100km
At speeds of 110km/h on highway Jazz is able to clock 18.6km/L from KL to Ipoh (aircond medium setting with 3 adults passengers). Would love to know the figures you can get from your sister Iriz

        Iriz better safety?
At top spec both has 6 airbags and ESP but what about NCAP ratings.
ASEAN NCAP: Jazz 15.58/16.00 vs Iriz 14.07/16.00
IIHS: Jazz is a top safety pick 2014
        http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/honda/fit/2015

In terms of handling Iriz will easily win the Jazz hands down.

  • I have tested Axia (1.0) and izis(1.6) last week and my conclusion as below :

    1) Pick up – Axia win.
    2) interior space – same.
    3) Power above 2 rpm – iriz win.
    4) engine realibility -Sure Daihatsu lah.
    5) Fuel consumption ; Axia with 1.0 CC.
    6) Interior quality ; same.
    7) Look : sudjective.
    8) resale value : Axia lah (perodua car’s has the best resale value)

The above comparison is unfair to Axia 1.0 (RM 33K) against Iriz 1.6 (RM 54K).

If those people opt for reliability, good resale value, good pick up and best fuel consumption.

Axia will be the top choice for all people and will beat Myvi in term of sale.

There is no reason to buy Iriz and immediate stock is available for this car.

Impressive. Axia bookings alone comprised 31% of total perodua sales in 2014.

This time Perodua has again provide what this market segment wants: Fuel Economy, Affordable price, and decent built quality. However their safety aspect is still insufficient. ESC should be default in all range. i wont say 6 airbags for the cheapest model, but should be available as a option.

I remembered hearing from somewhere that Proton Iriz also have many bookings also. Problem is I have seen quite a few Axia on the road in Johor Bahru here already, but not a single Iriz except a test drive unit around Skudai area.

In short words, Perodua sees no incentive for it to improve its safety features since Axia is selling so well wihout 6 airbags and ESC. This is sad but true.

Although Iriz looks promising, it has already lost the headstart launch, and the pricing strategy as well. But i must say, Iriz offers the best spec for the ringgit among all the proton models to date.

Punch CVT remains to be Iriz’s Achilles’s heel as well, aside from its past records of poor quality control and thus tarnished its reputation for a long time. Adding salt to the wound, Proton recently launched RM70k Suprima S, which omits ESC and 6 airbags (Safety was their biggest selling point!), this move definitely will generate a negative backlash to its future reputation as well.

And i believe Proton production rate and efficiency is not as good compared to Perodua, as Perodua has decades of proven record of producing decent quality cars in a short timeframe. That’s why we don’t see a lot of Iriz yet even though had a lot of bookings. Axia already delivered 26,000.

    Conclusion:
Axia is just a average decent car, but achieving great sales because of its efficiency production and accurate market positioning plus fast response to its customer base.

Iriz: A very good model to be let down by its Punch CVT, its manufacturer’s poor QC track record and by a marketing strategy that did nothing much to contribute to its sales. FC still remains average or even below average for the same market segment.

(I am not Proton basher as well as not a Perodua Fanboy. I am just stating facts based on what has already happened.)

Malaysians are a bunch of fickle minded people. Its always cash first always. Petrol la car price la that la this la. Its no thanks to this attitude that car manufacturers whom skimp of safety to reduce the price while adding in body kits can outsell all continental cars or cars that live up to safety standards first. And before you say continental cars also skim, do note that since they want to compete in the market they are forced to imitate the market leaders and supply products the market buys. case to point is this star article. i predict many many more cases involving the Axia. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014/12/15/Housewife-killed-family-critical-crash/

In current environment, rising cost, GST, fuel price hikes (due to Govt subsidy cut, etc. – there is high possibility of people opting for a cheaper car with low fuel consumption.

FIrstly congratulation to CEO and P2 team, as they are approaching a ‘stretch’ target and of course rewards will be given to teams for smart work. Need to say P2 marketing and sales strategy pay off as it has work against Proton IRIZ launch just couple of weeks after AXIA despite of different car segments. Due the reasons buyers had to decide two newly launch cars, fear of rising fuel prices, GST and economic uncertainty (oil prices / ringgit weakening). I think majority rakyat went for affordable mode of spending, and all of bundle safety features of IRIZ are “Nice to have” but not “Must Have” after all its call safety feature it not a guarantee a zero death of passenger for a car crash at high speed (ANCAP front crash speed was 65/km, any high speed impact no sure test dummies still in one piece or still inside the car). Even airbag can kill a passenger as reported and recalled to fix it.

Also lot of PT review mentions about CVT of IRIZ issues but none of Proton/DRB-HICOM spokesperson rebulk that claim. So car buyers take it negatively and who to blame if DRB-HICOM keep quiet about feedback from public or PT team or “Tidak Apa” or cannot be reviewed because backlash from public (keep it within PT blog)

Another story mention here, Perodua 3S hybrid ‘first’ of it kind, again P2 ahead of P1 creating and innovation of improvement to customers. P2 leads and P1 continue to be a defeated in competition.

Just got my Axia for first service. It is a beautifully made car.The 1.0 litre engine is world class used in the Toyota Yaris 1.0 3 cylinder model. Its UK list price is from Pounds 10K so we are getting a bargain here in Malaysia.Mine is a manual five speed gear.Chose this firstly as it is cheaper by almost RM10,000 and secondly read that small engines do not go well with automatic transmission(the fuel consumption goes up and there is a transmission lag when you press the accelerator pedal.)
So its the 1KR engine by Toyota that won me over.
