Production at the Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operation (MMVO) plant has broken the 100,000 mark, according to a statement issued by Mazda Motor Corporation. After just 11 months of operation, the milestone figure was breached courtesy of a Mazda 2 hatchback bound for Europe.
“We see this achievement as a milestone on our road towards achieving our mission of making MMVO one of the most important strategic locations in Mazda’s global manufacturing footprint,” said MMVO president and CEO, Keishi Egawa. Production of left-hand drive versions of the Mazda 2 began back in October.
The MMVO plant is the third facility in the world to begin production of said model. Initial assembly began at the Hofu plant in Japan in July. The second facility to follow was the Auto Alliance plant in Thailand, which commenced assembly in September.
