BMW 2 Series Convertible gets M Performance Parts

2 Series Convertible M Performance-02

The BMW 2 Series Convertible is the latest model to get an M Performance Parts catalogue. No surprise really, for the 2 Series Coupe already has a range of original BMW accessories from the M Performance range.

Exterior add ons include side skirts and skirt decals with M Performance lettering, as well as a rear diffuser. They match up nicely with the front grille with black trim surround and the carbon exterior mirror caps. BMW M Performance accent strips run along the flanks below the crease line, and the 19-inch wheels (405 M or 624 M dual-colour/polished) look good. A stainless steel silencer with chromed tailpipe embellishers and inscribed M logo (or carbon), round up the changes.

Inside, the M Performance range offers products made from carbon, with some combined with Alcantara. These include the selector lever trim (in manual cars, Alcantara gaiter), handbrake grip, centre console trim, centre armrest and Alcantara steering wheel with carbon trim. The latter can be specified with integrated Race Display.

It’s not just aesthetics. The M Performance Power Kit for the 220d boosts engine output by 14 hp – from 190 hp to 204 hp – and cuts the car’s 0-100 km/h time by 0.3 seconds. To this end, the ECU (including engine data update) and other components such as the larger-capacity intercooler, work together to maximum effect. Despite the higher output, there is no increase in fuel consumption.

It’s unlikely that serious enthusiasts will opt for the topless 2, but a BMW M Performance limited-slip differential is still offered. Lightweight sports brake discs with perforation and grooving can also be specified.
