Back in October last year, we brought you shots of the second-generation Jaguar XF undergoing durability testing. Now it appears that the next phase of development has commenced, as evident from these shots showing the a heavily-camouflaged prototype frolicking about in the snow.
As is the case with these paranoid engineers, the prototype shows barely an inch of its new skin. However, we can expect an updated design theme to feature – bringing the XF closer in appearance to its more contemporary and younger sibling, the Jaguar XE.
Riding on an elongated XE platform, the second-generation XF is expected to boast a longer wheelbase as well as being much lighter and stiffer than the current model. Individuals with an affinity for the weird, don’t get too excited just yet as the roof-mounted lights are only for testing purposes.
The brunt of the changes will most likely stem from the technical department as a range of new Ingenium engines will likely feature. One can expect a 2.0 litre four-cylinder mill, a 3.0 litre V6, a supercharged 5.0 litre V8 plus a range of diesel engines along with a plug-in hybrid to be available on the new XF.
Apart from that, several new tech such as the ‘Integral Link’ rear suspension setup from the XE and chassis components from the F-Type should add up to help the new XF gain an advantage of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Audi A6.
