Hyundai Veloster Turbo facelift out, gets 7-speed DCT

hyundai-veloster-turbo-facelift-south-korea-18

The Hyundai Veloster Turbo has been aesthetically updated in South Korea with a silver-surround front grille, new alloys and revised headlamp internals, but never mind all that – a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an “engine sound equaliser” is mentioned as available kit!

First shown at the 2014 Paris show, the DCT is claimed to improve frugality, emissions and acceleration over a conventional six-speed auto. The gearbox is currently available on the Sonata Eco in the US as well as facelifted versions of the i30 and i40.

According to The Korean Car Blog, which posted these pics, the updated South Korean-market Hyundai Veloster Turbo also gains an “engine sound equaliser” – something like the Renault Clio RS 200‘s R-Sound Effect, we suppose.

Six different engine sounds are said to be offered, although The Korean Car Blog says the driver can “adjust the level of engine sound” and “create his own sound category”. Does that mean you get to be an engine DJ?

Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 1.6 litre T-GDI four-cylinder motor that develops 204 hp and 270 Nm of torque – an 18 hp jump over the European state of tune. As you can see from the pics, a six-speed manual will also be offered. We really dig the version with the blue interior (seat belts included)!

The (pre-facelift) Hyundai Veloster Turbo has been seen quite a few times in Malaysia, including at JPJ and KLIMS13. Our northern neighbours have had it since April 2013. Has the moment now passed for us?

Would be good and bad, the good thing you can make your Volester sounds like Lamborghini headers but engine sound like V8 just to make you and passenger happy inside while the bad thing you can’t make eargasm to the spectators so they will think “What this shitbox doing” and you will gain no Street Credits.Anyway I’m still prefer Mitsubishi’s 463G four pot engine sound with straight pipes and HKS exhaust system.

The Veloster is not a bad car, decent comfort and practicality.

It’s the old 1.6 engine that is completely gutless. And the sky high price by Hyundai Malaysia.

VW screwed up with dry twin-clutch gearboxes big-time. Ford experienced it too. Even Honda wasn’t spared. Next up, it will be Hyundai’s turn..

Hyundai’s 6 speed gearbox is worlds one of the best gearbox. 6 speed gearbox has more than 200 patents protected by Hyundai. this 6 speed also maintanance free. the new 6-speed from Hyundai is maintenance-free – the gearbox is not equipped with a dipstick as it is filled with an automatic transmission fluid that is good for the life of the vehicle.

That’s a torque converter planetary gear auto gearbox. We’re looking at a twin dry clutch gearbox here. Do you know the difference?

US car brand Chrysler uses Hyundai 6 speed Gearbox for their cars like Dodge Dart, JEEP Compass etc.

so for their own car (Hyundai) how they might have tested the reliability of 7 speed gearbox.

So, basically you’re saying Ford, VW and Honda did not test their twin dry-clutch gearboxes but Hyundai won’t fall into the same trap?

Hyundai Malaysia sell only low spec models as high spec here. If high spec (Euro / US / Korea spec) all Jap models will fall.
