Highway Code test to be shared by car, motorcycle licence applicants, fees may be lower as a result

The Transport ministry has decided that car and motorcycle licence applicants will only have to take one Highway Code theory test, according to various reports.

“Currently, those who wish to get a car or a motorcycle licence have to study the car and motorcycle modules separately, and have to sit for two tests. After receiving complaints (from driving schools), we decided that they would still need to study both the modules separately, but only take a single test,” Transport minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai told The Star.

He added that the director-general of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has already been requested to issue the directive to all driving schools.

As a result, JPJ expects the licence fees to go down. “JPJ will implement the system as soon as possible for the convenience of all parties and I think the fee for driving licences will be lower after this,” Bernama quoted director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad as saying.

    I think…

    I think…

    I think…

Dah la, berapa ribu kali nak kencing rakyat. Minyak naik, everyone naik. Minyak turun, suddenly fuel cost no impact. Hawker blame flood la, TNB claim cost subsidised la, school bus blame spare part la, et cetera.

So what’s different this time? Driving school will still give BS excuse not to reduce fee.

You can’t say that driving schools are giving you BS. These are not BS fyi. When the systems change, everything else will change as well. From organizational functions to circuit training alterations. Not to mention the extra amount of hours being invested in teaching all the extras. Previously, there were only the Kursus Kurikulum Pemandu or better known as KPP course for 5 hours. And then there was the bengkel or workshop, for 3 hours theory and another 3 for introductory practical. Now, the bengkel has been scrapped and being replaced by a more complexed module called the KPP02. With this, all instructors MUST spend at least 5.5 hours in showing the candidates on how to identify the car engine parts, car panels, replacing of the spare tyre works and for the motorcycle, an astonishing 9.5 hours. Now, here’s the deal. If the operators don’t charge extra for all these add-ons, how are we suppose to survive? Asking for driving school BR1Ms ? And not to mention the amount of paperwork involved in book keeping and the organization of student informations, hopefully, when it’s time for them to sit for their practical exams, things will go smoothly. And to handle all these, extra man power is needed GREATLY. Everything is on the rise now and it is only logical the cost of obtaining a licence increases as well. And what you might think that driving schools are only out to squeeze every single buck and penny out of you, please, cubalah berfikir secara logik sedikit sebelum marahkan driving school. After deducting electricity bills, water bills, the cost of maintaining our training and testing circuits and vehicles, the cost of fuel and the salaries of staffs, we are actually earning the bare minimum. The few driving instructors that you might have seen driving better or above the average cars could be due to they have other means of income and not just solely relying on teaching alone.

    Sekian.

So with an existing D license, I can just walk into JPJ and get a B “L”?

I lost my B after my licence expired for many many years. Only managed to re-convert my foreign licence back to D.
