BMW 1 Series facelift coming to Malaysia this year

Besides the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW Group Malaysia MD and CEO Alan Harris in fact also mentioned, during Monday’s media briefing, another new model bound for our shores “later in the year.” We later sought clarification to yield that the model meant is actually the 1 Series facelift.

The updated F20 BMW 1 Series range was revealed to the world only a couple of weeks ago. This is pretty much the last we’ll see of the rear-wheel drive 1er, as the next generation is set to adopt the new front-wheel drive UKL platform used by the 2 Series Active Tourer, the new MINI and the next-gen BMW X1.

There’s a reshaped kidney grille that’s flanked by new, slimmer headlamps with nicer-looking corona rings (at least they’re in one line now!), plus restyled front and rear bumpers. Round the back, you’ll see new L-shaped LED rear lamps that now eat into the tailgate.

Now here’s the interesting bit – globally at least, the 116i now gets a 109 hp/180 Nm 1.5 litre three-cylinder engine. The pre-facelift 116i‘s 136 hp/220 Nm 1.6 litre four-cylinder now goes to the 118i, and the pre-facelift 118i‘s 170 hp/250 Nm version of that engine is now used by the 120i. The 125i however, keeps its 218 hp/310 Nm 2.0 litre four-cylinder.

Currently, the pre-facelift 116i and 118i are locally-assembled (CKD) while the 125i and 125i M Sport are fully-imported (CBU) – will this arrangement (and model range) be repeated for the facelifted car?

How much of facelift also not enough. BMW Malaysia is the ONLY car company in the World (not just Malaysia) offering 2 years warranty for their cars.

Consumers are fed up now. They know BMW themselves are so scared to give more than 2 years warranty cause BMW themselves know after 2 years, lots of expensive problems happen.

How come all other car companies are now giving 5 years warranty? Even Proton and Perodua Malaysian brand that everybody laugh also give 5 years warranty. Mercedes also give 4 year warranty.

So the LCI models got weaker engine setups this time…something rare that is seen for a BMW.

On the bright side the LCI 1 Series looks better now. Not sure if we will get more kit though but most importantly…don’t raise the price.

Will the price of 1-series drop now considering it has become from 1.6 to 1.5L.?
Will there be a 315i soon? Maybe price can drop so sub-190.

1-series LCI looked way better but now with 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine they better priced it to close to A3 price …

For me, they improved the front and screwed up the rear…
I can’t stop comparing the way it looks to its 2-series sibling which is nicer.

The BMW X6 is what I like the most among BMW SUVs and crossovers. Its coupe shaped roof and hunky body makes it very unique among other roadsters. Also their recently launched M3 and M4 are perfect example of the excellence of luxury cars manufacturing.
