Mercedes-Benz SL Mille Miglia 417 Edition revealed

Mercedes SL Mille Miglia-02

Mercedes-Benz celebrates the 60th anniversary of a memorable motor racing success with a special edition of the SL. The Mercedes-Benz SL Mille Miglia 417 Edition commemorates the unexpected victory of a 300 SL in the production sports cars class at the 1955 “Mille Miglia”, one of the world’s most challenging long-distance races.

Why 417? The winning SL at 1955’s Mille Miglia had the race number 417 and started the race at 4:17 am. After 11 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds it had completed 1,597 km on public roads from Brescia to Rome and back. Driven by American John Fitch, it crossed the finish line fifth overall and first in the production sports car category, leaving many racing prototypes behind. The 300 SL also took second and third place.

Available as an SL 400 (333 hp V6) and SL 500 (455 hp V8), the Mille Miglia 417 Edition gets red highlights on the front spoiler lip, rear spoiler, brake calipers and black AMG Performance wheels, which are 19 inches up front and 20 inches at the back.

The car comes as standard with a magnetite black metallic paint finish, but designo finishes (night black magno, cashmere white magno matte and diamond white) can be specified.

Inside, the AMG Line seats and black centre console with contrasting inlays and red edging are eye-catching features. The headrests sport an embossed carbon structure and an embroidered “SL Mille Miglia” label. Red also outlines the door centre panels with red armrests. Also unique are the red/black nappa leather steering wheel with carbon structure and floor mats with red piping and embroidered “1000 Miglia” label.

The price premium to turn your SL into a Mille Miglia 417 Edition is 14,800 euros (RM60,328) for the SL 400, and 12,800 euros (RM52,176) for the SL 500. Order books open in April.

This car is overdue for a total redesign already. Not worth its price and looks so dated. Sad.
