Range Rover Evoque Convertible confirmed for 2016

While the paint is still fresh on the recently-unveiled facelifted Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover has already announced that the on-again, off-again convertible version is indeed on, and will finally go on sale next year, four years after a concept was shown at Geneva 2012.

While very few details about the droptop have been revealed – apart from the fact that it would be built alongside its regular three- and five-door cousins at the Halewood plant in the UK – it should be a near facsimile of the already pretty production-ready concept.

The latter featured a fully-retractable soft-top, Roll Over Protection System, a drop-down tailgate and four seats. At the time, Land Rover claimed that a convertible Evoque’s weight and torsional rigidity would only change slightly over the standard body styles.

To hype up the announcement, Land Rover has released a video showing a camouflaged Range Rover Evoque Convertible traversing the 41.8 km Crossrail tunnel network – Europe’s largest construction project – currently under development in London. It’s a cheeky little homage to the launch of the original Evoque 2011, during which it was driven through the Edge Hill Tunnel in Liverpool.
