Continental Tyre Malaysia, the official manufacturer and distributor of Dunlop tyres in Malaysia, has launched the new Dunlop Formula D05 and Dunlop SP Sport J5 earlier today. Produced at Continental’s plant in Alor Setar, both tyres have been designed specifically for local road conditions, particularly in terms of wet weather performance.
“Travelling in the rain can be a nerve-wracking experience, so a tyre with superior wet weather traction can be a big safety benefit for drivers who need to travel at speed in wet conditions,” said national sales manager Sim Wee Chung. “Both our Dunlop new lines are 100% engineered with German technology and designed with Malaysia’s road conditions in mind.
The sportier Formula D05 features wiper blocks that increase road contact area, with the edge effect reducing the film of water between the tyre and the road edges, resulting in improved braking performance in the wet.
The tread compound has also been enhanced for better wet weather traction, while the advanced Silica Compound Technology ensures a wider operating temperature range compared to the previous Formula D01. Four wide, equally distributed longitudinal grooves accelerate water evacuation and equalise the water dispersion rate.
The more comfort oriented and fuel efficient SP Sport J5 uses a new generation of full silica compound which provides high wet weather grip and improved rolling resistance. The edge tie-bar works like a dam, dispersing water at high velocity, while an optimised number of sipes and grooves enhances water wiping while maintaining a large contact area, ensuring excellent braking performance in the wet.
Left: Dunlop Formula D05, right: Dunlop SP Sport J5Both tyres feature new dry and wet weather wear indicators, the first to be available in Malaysia. The rain indicator is shallower than the sun one, letting owners know when to change their tyres for optimum wet weather performance.
The Dunlop Formula D05 is available in 28 sizes ranging from 15- to 18-inches in diameter, while the Dunlop SP Sport J5 retails in 17 sizes ranging from 12- to 15-inches in diameter. Continental Tyre Malaysia claims that together, they cover more than 90% of Malaysia’s passenger car tyre sizes.

Finally an updated range after what? Nearly a decade in a doldrum. Not counting the e tyre I supossed.
Everytime new tyre launched, the company never reveal retail price. It’s all under national secret act also kah?
More details on pricing and sizes please.
A mudah ad advertised J5 195/60/R15 for rm165, not bad.
Might consider it when my current rubbers are done
Wow, Continental Malaysia distributes these tyres? Hopefully this tyre would be on par with other comfort tyres, or eco tyres, such as Continental ContiComfort 5, Bridgestone Ecopia EP200, Toyo NanoEnergy 3, Yokohama C Drive2, Dunlop Formula D01 and Michelin XM2. Personally, I have used all of the tyres above, and some are still on my cars. Dunlop D01 is my least favorite, although very good pricing, the tyres are quite noisy at 60% of its thread depth.
Although these two Dunlop series recently officially launched here, tyre shops have already stocked up the Formula D05 about 2 month ago, tagged at RM160 for 195/55 R15 size, I am tempted to shod the rubber in my sister’s car, but my brother in law bought the old Formula D01 before i could say anything.
Although the unfortunate event, i did get my hand on the D05, rubber compound does feel good, not as soft as Conti CC5.
In the article above, eventhough the spoke person said the tyre is design for tropical downpour usage, drive sensibly in wet condition. You will never know when your car is going to aquaplane, unlike driving in dry sunny day.
In jalan kapar klang. Dunlop D05 195/55/R15 price RM150 only
LAst time used Micelin recently tried Gudyear and really thankful coz the excellent grip and braking distance saved me few times frum almosr certain collision due to two idiots making illegal uturn( despite signboard prohibiting) at a curving road…always admired Continental maybe will give it a try next tyre chg
Changing tyres based on brand is too generic. Each manufacturer makes a range from basic to high end tyres. One model from a particular manufacturer that is good doesn’t mean every model is good.
The DO series was misleading acually.Like the previous DO2.’sporty style’ written on its side. The tire itself perform below par.Lets hope this replacement have lots of improvement.
For the SP J series, previous model was very long lasting.performance is so-so suits its long life character.
Imho, Viking is the most value for money now. However doubt the quality will be the same when they start gaining market share.
treadwear?? traction??
Tread wear number is an index that provides an indicative rating as to how fast a tyre wears out.
It is derived from controlled conditions
As long as they are not Kumho or Hankook tyres, you will be safe
im using hankok dynapro MT.. far better than silverstone MT
In Europe, new Audi TTS is using hankook tyre, so means audi TTS is not a safe car?
Since they said this tyres are made in the factory in Alor Setar the quality should be the same as Continental local tyres at a cheaper price. I always unable to afford Continental but I see the brand as ori tyres for premium cars like VW BMW Audi and Merc, must try one day
Conti and Dunlop under the same umbrella, I think
continental, dunlop and viking are under one roof if i not mistaken.
Looks like a midrange kind of tyres not really a UHP. Probably for developing n budget conscious market like malaysia.
Thai Made Michelin’s are of great quality and value for money
i bought dunlop d05 before CNY last month.
Overall performance is considered good and it’s worth the price.
Will the paultan.org team be able to get their hands on a set for a review? (hopeful)
why no pricing?? Secret is it??
recently bought j5 for my myvi. 1 month now and very happy with the tires. it is noticably quieter and grip is good in wet condition. tested in actual weather. price is right and great value.
Ya.. same here, I just change j5 for myvi.. is good
Agreed with Samad Jain…how much it cost for dunlop sp sport j5 for one tyre?
how could I see the expire date on these tires..?
