SPIED: W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class wears less camo

Mercedes E-Class 2

The development of the W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class seems to be gaining steam ahead of the car’s expected unveiling in 2016, as our European spy photographers managed to capture the executive sedan sporting less disguise than before.

As expected, the W213 looks to ditch the current car’s angular design in favour of styling similar to its W222 S-Class and W205 C-Class siblings, with long, drawn out proportions, gentle curves and an enormous radiator grille up in front.

Mercedes E-Class 6

We wonder if Mercedes is aping BMW’s old “same sausage, different length” approach – as we’ve seen before, the interior also appears to mimic the S-Class, with four round centre air vents, full-width wood veneer trim and a large hooded binnacle incorporating the instrument cluster and an infotainment display in the centre.

Under the skin, the new E-Class is expected to be built on the W205 C-Class’ rear-wheel drive Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) and feature a range of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines up to 3.5 litres in displacement, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. A fire-breathing E 63 AMG will sit at the top of the range, powered by AMG’s new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 as seen on the GT and C 63.

  • From the exterior design point of view I think it’s a step back from the current face lifted model. The current design is just gorgeous. However, that can’t be said with the interior which I am sure this new model will beat by miles !

is it me or the european designers are getting lazier and lazier?? or perhaps they just run out of talent?? every car looks almost the same as the one came out before, in the name of “family look”.

I hope it looks better than the new C class. Designers, in their quest to milk a proven design are getting boxed in their ideas. The C class is a good example, the front is very angular, sharp and “long”. Aggressive looking.. While the back is rounded,”short” flowing into a bigger bottom. giving the impression that its squatting.

The S class carries this design so much better as you can see the seamless transformation from the back to the front vs two very abrupt designs for the C class.

The interior is a different story…very classy, trendy and upmarket.
