SPIED: W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sports new grille

E-CLASS-1

Less than a week has passed since we brought you a batch of spyshots of the W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and already a new set has landed on our doorstep. This time round, the biggest difference can be found on the front end of the heavily-camouflaged prototype.

While previous shots showed the test mule wearing the trademark Exclusive treatment, the latest batch reveals a prototype sporting the Avantgarde theme. One only needs to have a closer look at the W205 C-Class Avantgarde to get a feel of what the front end will look like on the W213.

As expected, the grille features a twin bars that run horizontally across the frame, only to be interrupted in the middle by the inclusion of the signature ‘Tri-star’ badge, masked here for obvious reasons. Elsewhere, the new W213 E-Class is expected to feature a design theme similar to the W205 C-Class and W222 S-Class.

Under the skin, the W213 E-Class is expected to be based off a reworked version of the W205’s Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform. Engine options are likely to include a range of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines with the addition of a plug-in hybrid and a range-topping AMG model.

On the inside is where things get more interesting as initial spyshots of the W213’s interior reveal a layout that is very much inspired by the W222 S-Class. A vast, single piece of wood is featured on the centre console with four air-con vents sprouting from the assembly.

The main difference lies in the exclusion of a clock and the climate control panel, which has been moved down below the air-con vents. The next biggest alteration to the layout can be seen in the updated COMAND panel, which now sits inside a singular binnacle that houses the instrument cluster as well.
